Hey ladies,

Kavi is so adorable, I can definitely see the resemblance to his mommy and KS your little one is so cute as well, I love the first pic in your siggy.... I love baby pics in general keep them coming!

I am so hoping not to have a C-Section, I've never had major surgery so the thought of it makes me shiver! I know I should mentally prepare for it just in case. At the same time, I'm also petrified about vaginal birth and tearing badly. Childbirth just scares the ####### out of me because I don't really know what to expect as far as pain and I consider myself to have high pain tolerance (I used to get awfully painful period cramps) but still the more I think about it the more I want to say... :help:

i was just like you! i didn't know what to expect!! Everyone telling me it will be the most painful thing ever and then you will forget all about it! Well that didn't make me feel any better either!! I really can't descripe it to you because everyone experiences it differently!! My contractions were in my back and sides which to me was horrible it felt like my back was being twisited and i know a heating pad helped for a little bit so then i got the epidural which mine was great i felt nothing but Kaila moving around inside and as far as the c-section i was so out of it that i remember it like a movie!! I remember before i had her just being so afraid of being in pain but my nurses were great and really helped me a lot...so if you are nervous talk to your OB and your labor nurses they will try to help you rest at ease!

Nanny sounds like we had similar labor. I never realized how horrible back labor would be.

Mommy2be-

I got my epidural at 7cm, only b/c they kept sending me home from the hospital, and when I went back the 3rd time I was 7 cm. B/c it was back labor, I couldn't make it naturally I decided. My midwife and nurse couldn't believe I was already 7cm when I went back to the hospital b/c the night before I was 2 cm. They said "are you sure you want the epidural since you already made it this far? you're doing great!"...I said, "well if you think the baby will be born soon I will go without the epidural, but if I am not progressing then I need the epidural or I'll feel like dying." After an hour or so I got the epidural. Thankfully it helped me so much. What relief on my back and hips. I also was scared thinking about all this stuff while I was pregnant. But I survived it. :P You will too even if it's hard! Hopefully you'll get lucky and have an easy labor. :)

I also never had any surgeries in my life before the c-section. I was fine during it, had nice nurses explaining everything, and I was so tired and it had been drawn out so long, I just wanted Kavi to be born any way possible. I didn't get scared, I think I just accepted that it was happening. The part I disliked was after Kavi was out and they had to put everything back together (ew sorry haha). That took longer than the first part of the surgery and Kavi and hubby had left the room so I couldn't wait to be back into the regular labor & delivery room again. All in all, the whole surgery from start to finish was probably 30 mins for me. I was in the operating room for about a half hour before the surgery started though, waiting on the ob surgeon who had to come from doing an emergency c-section at a different hospital.

mommy2be....I went into labor telling myself I had a high tolerance for pain...and I managed to sit thru contractions for 3 days at home and dialated to 6cm..For me it was never "that bad" I also did get an epidural at 8cm (not that i was in excrutiating pain) but I was fearful of what it would feel like when he was coming out...Needless to say, the epi was done twice and it never worked, and all in all, it wasnt anything terrible..

Are you going to try to not get an episiotamy (sp?) Before zaid started to crown, my OB looked at me and said, "If I dont cut you, You are going to tear horribly." (zaid was 9lbs) so, Right then and there She did...The cut wasnt big, just enough, and it healed within a week..at about 8 weeks postpartum, The sensitivity was gone and now I wouldnt even know I had it done..

Thanks KS, I was planning to put on my birth plan that I don't want an episiotomy unless necessary. I guess if the situation is similar to yours then it wouldn't be so bad. I have yet to talk to my doctor about it but I will try to do so at my next appointment on Monday.

Nanny, I did hear back labor was the worst! Is having constant back pain during the pregnancy an indicator that you will have back labor? I have really back pain that comes and goes.

Thanks, I am going to try to make it to make it as long as possible without the epidural but I won't hesitate to ask for it if it the pain just becomes too intolerable. I just hope it works!

no i don't think it is....i know a lot of preganat women who had back pain and just had regular contractions...i will say this i had braxton hicks in my back so maybe that was a indicator i would have contractions in my back? not sure...

I didn't have any back pain during my pregnancy(just hips and groin pain) but had the back labor so I don't think they are really related. The position of the baby at the time of labor will be a big contributer I believe. Kavi was "sunny side up" which is why my labor was so hard and wasn't going the way it should have, his head was not at the best angle against my cervix, etc. For sunny side up it means their back and spine are against your back and spine during labor, instead of their face at your back which is the best way for baby to be during childbirth. The wrong position of the baby puts pressure on places that wouldn't get so much pressure if the baby was facing the correct way. Kavi was head down and all, just facing the wrong way.

Chrissy,

Well, I haven't had my first baby yet, but I do know that we will be open to more children, even right away. I'm 40, so it often takes a bit longer to get pregnant, and I know that I won't be having many more due to my age. We won't be terribly disappointed if it doesn't happen. We could always adopt, or just have one child.

That said, one of my mom's neighbors had her first child at 41 and now has 3 healthy children (no twins!). I think that lots of people are having babies later in life these days.

It's nice to not have to worry about birth control!

Carolyn

P.S. At the moment I really am enjoying being pregnant--I think I am going to miss it once the baby is born! We'll see if this attitude continues after my birthing experience!

I miss being pregnant terribly and quite honestly if I were more financially stable I would get pregnant now and zaid is only 3 months old! We definitly want a few more kids but will probably wait til next year for the next unless by some chance it just happens! I had to stop my BC cuz my stomach meds we're making it not even work. So who knows!

Hello Ladies...

I hope you are all doing well, I haven't been on much lately. I have been reallllly tired. I am finally on maternity leave now so i hope I can get some sleep!:thumbs: I went for my 36 week check up a few days ago and the baby is breech at this point. They want to do an external version to try and coax her into the right position. There are some risks that come with that, for example if her heart rate drops during the procedure or if I start bleeding...they will have to do an immediate c-section.

Right now, I think I am leaning against it and I am just going to schedule a c-section and pray that she moves on her own before that. Has this happened to anyone here?

JP

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.

JP,

Sorry to hear about the breech position...my sister had that with her first child--they figured it out at her 38 week check-up and her amniotic fluid was also really low, so she had no choice but a c-section that afternoon! Because of her lack of fluid, they were not able to even attempt the external version. I don't know much about doing that (I've never heard about the risks), but I do hear that lots of babies flip on their own, even days before the due date...I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

By the way, there are a number of things that you can do to encourage your baby to flip--check out this website: www.spinningbabies.com

Oh, do I hear you about the tired bit in these last few weeks! One day I have plenty of energy, the next day I feel like I have lead in my legs! For me the key is not to over-do it--naps help! Now that you're on maternity leave, I hope you can enjoy a more relaxed schedule. This may be the last time for the next few years when we have quiet days to ourselves, so we should take advantage of them!

JP...my nephew was breech until 2 days before my sis's water broke...I havent heard anything good come form external version, not to get your hopes down, but I hear its quite painful, and I dont know anyone who it actually worked for...Now, my other sis in law (who delivered right before me) her baby was like "double breech" his legs were flipped up over his head and he was STUCK! the doc told her at 35 weeks there would be no chance for him to flip, let alone even move....Im crossin my fingers for ya that ms princess cooperates..
