Oh my goodness I was watching Tyra Banks show today and this lady nursed her kid until 8 years old. That is a 3rd grader now this I find weird. I thought there weren't much benefits after the age of 5 years old. Then her daughter when she was 9 asked for breast milk for a present. I was amazed but she said she did not get much milk because her sucking ability was gone. I thought most people quit by age 3 or 4. hmm

don't even get me started on this....it creeps me out....to be honest anything over 12 months is  to me, but thats my opinion

pedantic semantics aside, why is it your opinion that that is too old? what was your line of thinking in forming that opinion?

let me answer this question for you- breastfeeding is out in the vj baby corner. It's soy milk, tylenol and juice on baby's diet now.

Hi guys! Declan was discharged today and the doctor gave the okay for us to head home to New Hampshire!!! We just got in a couple hours ago, and it is such a relief to be back home. He seems to be feeling better, still a little fussy and gassier than ever. I have to remind myself that he only had surgery a week ago and that he still needs time to heal and return to normal.

Keltic - I too appreciate your posts and hope that you continue to post here. My experience with the medical community has been positive, especially with everything that happened recently with my child. People here will have differing opinions on things, and there is no one right answer.

Stina - When is Kavi's surgery? I'll be thinking about you. One of the toughest things for me was watching them put IV's in my baby, but honestly, it was harder for me than him. He did great, only cried one time (after the first IV leaked after a couple days, the nurses had a hard time putting in a second one and that is when he cried. At the time of the surgery, they put in a central IV line and he was fine with that too). A pacifier dipped in sucrose water was the best thing for him, really took his mind off the pain.

Question for everyone about immunizations (I really do want to hear differing opinions): How did people decide what schedule to do immunizations on .... traditional or a schedule speading out the immunizations. Declan was due for his 2 month immunizations on the 8th, but we missed that appointment due to the surgery. We are scheduled to go in next Tuesday. I have been going back and forth on whether to get all his shots then, or just do a couple and spread them out. Poor baby has been through so much lately. I am not sure what to do.

I am glad that you and Declan are home and safe now. It is good to know that he is doing good!! I hope he has a smooth recovery.

We are doing shots on the normal schedule. When we went at our 2 month appoitment they didn't have one shot in. So we had to go when she was 3 months old for that one. The ones for her 2 months she cried for a few days and her leg was red for 4 days. The last one she got at 3 months she cried for 10 minutes and was fine. I brought her Enfamil vitamins. She cheered up when I gave her vitamins and was fine. I would just say get it over with like everyone said.

When is ok to piece the baby's ears.... :star:

My brother and neighbor had their daughters ears pierced after their 2 month shots and they seem fine. I will be making this a choice for my daughter later on in life.

I'm with you on that; we are not getting pierced ears until the age of ten minimum.

@ KS - Declan is doing okay, thanks for asking. He is fussier than usual. Since the surgery, he seems to spit up more and have more congestion. I keep reminding myself that the surgery was only a week and a half ago and he needs time to recover. I feel so paranoid now, stressing about every sound he makes.

@ Eveline - I am still a bit sleep deprived, so if you are just joking, then ignore my comment. But if you are serious .... PLEASE don't say goodbye to this thread. I have really appreciated your comments and feedback on breastfeeding and other matters. We all have differing opinions and have different experiences with our babies, but I think that makes this thread interesting, and, no matter whether we breastfeed or bottle feed, we are all moms and can learn from each other.

And on that note, does anyone have any advice about how to get Declan to latch again? After I began taking Reglan, my milk production had increased and we were actually able to breastfeed most of his meals, just giving him one or two formula bottles. This was the week before we went to CT and the unexpected surgery. While we were in the hospital, breastfeeding didn't go well at all. I pumped, but on the day of his surgery, didn't pump much. I think that, as well as stress, caused my milk to severely decrease. Since we have been home, he is not latching well again. I don't know if it is because he is out of practice or because he is frustrated that my milk supply is low. I am going to begin another course of Reglan next week. Any feedback is much appreciated. I believe that there is nothing wrong with formula, but I worked so hard to get Declan to breastfeed and it was finally successful, that this is making me so sad that we are back at square one again.
