At Kavi's 4 months ped visit, the Dr said we could start cereals and work our way up to baby food. I know every Dr might say different things so I am just saying what we were told, you may be told differently.

He said to start on rice cereal, then after a few days to try oatmeal cereal and stay with that for a couple weeks. I just gave it once a day at first. Just before 5 months I started green veggies(Dr said this order to try), then other color veggies. Lastly fruit. Kavi has had some banana so far for fruit, mixed with cereal. Of course you know you start a food and wait 3-5 days before trying a new one to check food allergies.

The Dr said no juice still, and didn't say anything about water but I know for Kavi it wouldn't be a good idea unless he was severely constipated. And in the case of constipation the Dr said apple juice, even at 2 months old...so Kavi has had that but very sparingly and only for constipation. It would be like 1 oz apple juice with 1 oz water.

The Dr said no juice anytime soon as a drink, so we'll see with that. Since Kavi needs the calories he has, I can't add in something like water unless it's necessary for a specific reason, and even then I think a small amount. Also our Dr didn't want us to give him anything with meat or poultry in it until 8 months. I don't know why really.

Kavi eats food usually 2 times a day now, midday and evening. He has some kind of baby cereal and a baby veggie or banana. I don't give banana every day yet b/c I know it can constipate. He does really good with peas and sweet potatoes. Green beans seemed to have given him gas.

I don't blame you for worrying!! We are planning to go to India in the next 6-8 months with Kavi and that just makes me so nervous thinking about it.

Here's Kavi's 4th of July outfit, hehe.

OMG Stina he is just too cute! I love the facial expression...priceless!

Your food plan sounds very good. I only give Ayman juice (also mixed with water) maybe once a day, but it's in addition to his meals and not as a substitute. The main reason I give it to him is because it helps with his colic and also he gets very constipated, so it keeps things moving. I have tried putting some rice cereal in his bottle at night to see if it helps him sleep, but nope doesn't help. I have only tried twice though. I was told because he is such a big boy that it's fine, but I'm just affraid it makes him more constipated.

Is anyone elses baby teething already?? I think Ayman is. He is drooling all over the place and constantly wanting to chew on everything. He is going thru like 3 outfits and bibs a day with his drooling.

Hi guys :) I love all the new baby pics, they are adorable.

Well, Declan was released on Saturday. He did great Saturday and Sunday, but on Monday was incredibly fussy and inconsolable at times (very atypical for him, normally I can soothe him in minutes). So we ended up at the ER last night and they admitted him again :( His bowel was distended on an xray last night, but today all the tests and xrays look normal (thank god!). Declan seems to be feeling better too. They are keeping him for observation for another night. I just want all this to be over with. Hubby is unfortunately home in NH, but my mom is here with me.

I'll post when I can.

autumnchick- I am sorry to hear that your little one is not feeling good again and in the hospital. I hope this is his last visit and he feels better.

carshel- my little girl drooles all day to now and blows bubbles with her drool. We go through lots of out fits too. Sometimes I just let her hang out in her diaper. She likes to talk a lot too by cooing and she just drools all over herself. I don't think its her teeth yet. She sucks on her fingers, pacifier, and teddy bear all the time.

Praying for little Declan! I was thinking about you and thinking how stressed I'll be for kavi's little surgery that's going to happen in a couple months(I know Declan needs that one too). And that surgery is not as big of a deal at all compared to what you all have been through.

Kaila is!! A tooth is already coming through in the front i feel this sharp thing coming through and her fists and fingers are ALWAYS in her mouth with tons of drool...

Well I'm not breasfeeding and considering my child weighs over 14 pounds already, I think he's doing just fine.

agreed! I think ayman is Faaar from malnourished! lol..

Apparently, I erred greatly by not quoting the post I was referring to. I was not intending to imply that you were malnourishing your children. My post about water for infants was specifically in response to this post:

So when did you ladies start food, juice and water? I was thinking I would start all that at 4 months when I got back to work. But I was wondering if I should give her some water in Jamaica to keep her hydrate or if my milk would be fine.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that she is breastfeeding. I was trying to ease her mind. If I am wrong, I am terribly sorry.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have been a member of VJ for a long time and was in the baby corner for the pregnancy and birth of my child. I have posted less and less because it is very clear that my input is not what this corner of VJ cares to hear. As a nurse who works with infants and a mom who has now had 2 children, I have questions and also have experience that I have wanted to share. It has been increasingly implied in posts that the medical profession is only out for money, lazy and don't care for families and their birth experiences. I am part of that profession. It is very offensive and I have not said anything about it, although it has weighed on my mind.
Aside from the professional, I am also probably what most everyone here thinks of as a total failure of a mother. I was not able to breastfeed my children (don't even begin to say it is because I didn't try or didn't have support - I did). I had a C/S for my son and don't feel it is something that I should feel horribly disappointed in - my son is just as much my son no matter how he came into this world. I use Avent bottles - yes, they have BPA, it doesn't mean I love my child less. I had no hesitation in getting both my children immunizations on the schedule as recommended. There are reasons they are recommended that way and I believe the studies that show why.
So, as much as I don't seem to fit, I know there are many other women that are just like me. And really, the only reason I am even posting this, is because I think those women might feel too intimidated to join in.
Keltic please dont back away from posting here. I believe everyone's input and experience is valuable. If you are going to spell it out like that I guess I would fall under the 'bad mom' category for many of the same reasons you stated ;) but seeing as I have two wonderful and well adjusted children, including one approaching adolescence, I am not losing any sleep over it. We all know and agree there isnt a RIGHT or a WRONG way to parent, there are as many different styles and methods as there are individual babies and mothers. All of us as mothers just want our babies to be healthy and happy and exchanging ideas with a lot of people in a forum like this is a great way to do it.
I am sorry you feel your profession being bashed. I dont think that anyone is intentionally putting that message out there. I for one have posted more than once that whether I wanted it or not, I NEEDED medical intervention with the birth of both of my babies. I have great problem free pregnancies and consider myself to be a pretty good mom once they are out here in the world, but for whatever reasons my body just doesnt seem to want to cooperate when its time to get a baby out and I firmly believe that in another place and/or time I would have been one of the many many women who succumbed to death in childbirth, so I am more than grateful for the doctors and nurses and medical know how that allow me to be sitting here right now typing this response :)
