Ayman has times where he doesn't eat an entire bottle, but for the most part he sucks them dry. He is now up to 6 1/2 oz every 4 hours with some water or juice in between. He seems to be doing fine on the soy formula. The only thing is his poop has become very hard. Poor baby was crying trying to poop today.
My pediatrician told me not to feed our baby anything but milk for the first 6 months. I hear so many different things.

i think it really depends....i don't think there is anything wrong with a couple ounces of water a day just to get things moving around and cleaned out in the mouth...and with Juice or food i think you just need to go off the cues of your baby

So then it sounds like Aymans trouble pooping is the formula...just great.

I think it's different for each baby and being as Ayman is so big, giving him juice is not a problem for him. He rather enjoys it very much and it definitely helps get things moving. I don't think water is going to hurt either considering you add water to formula. All babies mature at different rates though.

Carrie, thats exactly the way I thought about juice and water, our kids are the size of 4 month olds if not bigger, lol...as long as he takes it ok (no reactions not spitting up, etc) i would do it too...

so, zaid woke up at 7am yesterday and from the time he woke until 730pm he only napped for 30 mins...He was a wreck the last half of the day, screeeaming just cuz he was soo tired and wouldnt surrender...he finally passed out (as did mommy) and he slept 11 hours only waking for one feeding..i really hope the lil booger gets back on his nice schedule where he was going to bed around 10pm and waking at 630am...

Quick question: what kind of sterilizer do you use? It seems not all say that they fit all bottles. I wanted the Bornfree sterilizer, but I am considering other choices as no store as it in stock in my area... I have Bornfree bottles only (tall and short) and some glass bottles, will they go with any Microwave sterilizer\?

Ayman was doing the same all weekend except when he was pushing he screamed like someone was killing him. His was hard and dry like clay too and it was only a little bit each time. Finally after he had some prune juice he pooped and it was much better. I tried the thermometer in the rear thing and it didn't work. Good luck!

Sorry for the stupid question...but do we have 2 Carrie & Simo's?

Shauna I hope she feels better. Poor sweet thing.

Jaylyn just had another shot and has been doing fine she is napping so we will see. The doctor says now she is a normal size and not to small at 3 months. I really don't get it. At 2 month she was 10 pounds nine oz and now at 3 months she is 11 pounds 9 oz. So she gained exactly the same. When she gets her shots next will be a sad day for me because that is the day I start work. So the first day I leave her I have to pick her up and bring her to the doctors office. :crying: I just thank the lord I have been able to nurse her for 4 months till I start work. My dad said that was plenty and should quit. I think I will quit at 6 months in October when I start teaching the after school program.

So when did you ladies start food, juice and water? I was thinking I would start all that at 4 months when I got back to work. But I was wondering if I should give her some water in Jamaica to keep her hydrate or if my milk would be fine.

Here is a cute thing my husband said and the nurse couldn't stop laughing. Your getting so big just by drinking mommy's milk. Mommy's milk taste so good doesn't it. My husband looked at us like what is so funny. It is cool for him to be so in on her progress and also doing baby talk (he really thinks he doesn't use baby talk  .)

Sense I pump milk and store it with my medla pump. I use their sterilizing bags for the microwave for my bottle and nipples. Buy a few extra nipples they go bad with in 2 to 3 months. I was wondering why they were leaking all of a sudden.

In our discharge teaching, the reason parents are told not to supplement with water, is that everything an infant eats/drinks should have calories in it. The baby can miss valuable nutrients and calories that would have been in breastmilk/formula.

Here is some further information about supplementing with water:
