Hi everyone!

The doctor just came out and said the surgery went well. They just finished up putting the stitches in. They found that his stomach was in his chest cavity so they moved it back to the proper place and also closed the hole in his abdomen. His lung was moderately sized and fully developed. The doctor said it will probably never be quite as developed as the other lung, but he should have no difficulties in life and it should not impact him in any way. We are just waiting for him to wake up from the anesthesia now and then we can see him.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and well wishes.

great news autumnchick. I'm so glad everything went well. All the best for the next days and recovery.

@selvi: Is there maybe a chance your little man can sleep in your bed with you or you can get a cosleeper? Babies sleep best and breathe best when mommy is near and if that is the only way you guys can get some rest then go for it.

I am hoping to get Jay on a schedule to before I go back to teach. She hates baths so that won't work. Jay screams at the top of her lungs once I put her in the bath tub. How do you get your son to play in the water? When we get back from Jamaica I am going to try to get something going. Nothing is working so far. She only sleeps 3 to 4 hours most of the time.

make sure bath water is not too hot, not too cold (check with your elbow) and that the room temperature is nice and warm. Hold her over the tub with just her feet in the water for a few seconds before u put her into the water. once she's inside the water, put a wet, warm washcloth on her tummy for another few seconds until she gets used to it.

Wash from head to toe for about 3 minutes. If she cries, don't wash her head, that usually makes things worse. Ben loves bathtime and he sleeps better after a nice warm bath too.

@tamiselvi: I think Babies usually sleep better when they're close to mom&dad. We put Ben in a bassinet next to our bed around 10pm, he then sleeps until around 4am-5am, eats and goes to sleep in our bed until 8am-9am.

We tried the crib, but it hasn't worked. I guess if I was a baby, l'd rather sleep with my 2 favorite people in the world than all by myself in a strange room behind bars.

I know it's a very controversial thing, but it works for us and it's a lot more convenient to sleep close to him than getting up and sleep-walking to another room 4 times a night.

wow you guys are so lucky with your childcare! where I live you have to pay $20 an HOUR for decent childcare.

We are definetely thinking about having an Aupair in a couple of years. It's cheaper in the long run (costs more in the beginning of course) and you know you have somebody there 24/7.

i would be really careful with the aupair....being a nany i heard horror stories from famlies who had aupairs....just be careful!!!

chnst~as far as a nanny....i would really try to go through some kind of agency even though they will charge money to go through them i would recomend that! Also start you search at least 4-5 months before you need a nanny..the interview process can take a while...also as far as living conditions...you can get a live out...

if you get an aupair through an agency you have full backup from them, same goes for the aupair. I would rather have an aupair than a nanny for some reason.

autumnchik, praying declans recovery is quick and painless, keep us informed...

zaid also loves baths, sometimes, when he is having a "fit" a bath will completely calm him down...he does hate getting massaged with lotion but i do it anyways, poor kid has eczema. the little booger has thrown off his schedule and been sleeping 5pm to 2am...rather than 9pm to 5am...i havent been off work to keep him awake, i asked hubby to do his best and i come home to the BOTH of them sleeping...uugh, i know its selfish to keep him up, but i have to have some sleep i work over 45 hours a week...

some of the prices for child care are RIDICULOUS!!!!! Carrie? 200$ a week? are you friends with this women? is she certified or licensed? day care is cheaper than that!!! i would imagine u could find someone much cheaper... wow, i guess im fortunate...i know many middle aged women who's kids are grown up and their just lookin for a bit of extra cash...like i said, we will meet with this women next week...

Chnst - Sorry, I never answered you. Yes, they are letting us sleep in the same hospital room as Declan. Hubby sleeps in a chair that converts to the bed and I have been on a cot.

Chnst and Eveline - Hahaha, I fooled you guys into thinking I was staying sane :) Posting here has been one thing that did help me feel better, but I have been doing a lot of freaking out and crying too. I am feeling much better now that the surgery is over.

About childcare - in my area, many places/people are not accepting infants or are full. We are bringing Declan to a daycare center that costs $200 a week. It has been highly recommended and has a brand new facility, but I still hate the idea of leaving him, especially now. Not sure though about having a nanny or an au pair.

I worked as a nanny for 200 Dollars a week but I took care of 3 8-14 year old boys so I guess I was actually being underpaid. It was fine with me though. I really liked the family (mom took her stuff and left her boys and husband while her husband was deployed in Iraq...nice) and it was ok money.

Aupairs make - I think - only 180 Dollars a week but then you can have 24/7 daycare. Also there is a programm "Aupair Pro" which has only girls who do have childcare experience and the training for it.
