Oh Sara, I got tears in my eyes reading about Adnan whispering the prayer to your little one--ok, I'm very hormonal, but it sounds so sweet! I'll have to ask Simo about that...

I am going to write a birth plan, but one with flexibility. I know that things rarely go as planned, but I still want to think positive about labor and delivery (I'm doing some visualizing--I'm also sending vibes to this baby to stay somewhere around 7-8 pounds, but I don't know how well he/she will respond to my suggestions :star: ).

i think that is a great idea!!! i wanted to get to 5 cm before i got the epidural...hahahaha didn't work that way because i stopped at 3cm.....i think the thing to remember that not all births are like you see on tv....one push and out comes the baby....

Declan has to fast now until his surgery tomorrow, only getting fluids through an IV. The nurses came in to start his IV, realized that his site was leaking and so have to redo it. They have been trying for about 20 minutes and cannot seem to get an IV in. Declan has been screaming uncontrollably the whole time, so upset he is sweating. I can't stand seeing him so upset and with nothing I can do to soothe him. Even the sugar water is not helping him. He has been so brave through this all ... was fine when he got the first IV in the ER, has had a catheter to gather urine, xrays, ultrasounds ... and he has remained calm. I hate that this is bothering him so much. I had to leave the room because it was so hard to watch, so here I am on VJ for a bit.

Hope all is well with everyone else.

sofyan and i had no birthing plan, we didnt take any classes, we never toured the hospital, i had no interest...birthing almost never goes the way u think, or hope, so, i just decided to take it as it came...i spent 2 days dilating at home and by the time i went to the hospital i was 6cm....at 8cm i got the epidural, TWICE, and it never worked...i labored for 12 hours at the hospital and pushed for 2 hours, zaid was posterior so it was VERY hard to get him to come down...but because i had full feeling, i was able to push very well, and after a MUCH needed episiotomy, he came out...

My hospital didnt have any stirrups!! i thought that was just on TV...i had a nurse at one leg and sofyan at the other...most of the time pushing was either on my left side or right ...laying on my back was not effective at all...

wheres carrie?

I'm here! I was at my parents from Thursday until Monday. It was supposed to be a nice enjoyable weekend with Ayman and my family, but I was sick the whole time. I came back with a sinus infection and ear infection. I'm better now, just hoping the little one doesn't get sick...again.

Autumnchik - I'm so sorry to hear about Declan. I hope all goes well with his surgery today. Poor little guy...

Good idea. I also wrote a very loose birth plan...I put some things into it that I knew would be easy to accomplish. Example:

I will have my husband in the room, and he will cut the baby's cord

Episiotomy at discretion of midwife(I trusted her a lot and she didn't routinely go them, only sometimes so I left it up tp her)

No immediate plan for epidural, but want it available in case

Want to hold baby and try breastfeeding ASAP after birth

So I didn't put too many other details. And to be honest, I discussed everything with my midwife ahead of time, asking what they do. And what they did(after a normal delivery) was already what I wanted to happen, so I didn't even bring the birth plan with me to the hospital.

Ok so since I had the c-section, things didn't go as planned but hubby was still with me, and after the initial cut of the baby's cord, they let him cut the next part so he still got to do it. I had to wait to hold the baby but they let me have him after the waiting period. I was able to go to 7 cm without the epidural(only b/c they hospital sent me home twice saying I wasn't progressing, grrrr so through the night I labored at home, but I wish I had gotten the epi wayyy sooner b/c of back labor, my belly pain wasn't as bad as my bad back labor).

I watched a video birthing class, didn't go to a class. Lamaze did help me b/c of how they kept sending me home, without lamaze I would have lost my mind. You have to have control over your breathing and mind during contractions so that you don't lose it. So personally it helped me.

Awww, oh my!! :( I had problems with them having to put my IV in a different place after it leaked into my arm, and as an adult that was hard so I can't imagine. Poor little boy, my goodness!! *hugs* to you!! I am praying for your little boy.

Hi guys,

They FINALLY got the IV in after about an hour and a half of trying and several different nurses. poor baby boy now is screaming with hunger and we can't feed him.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes.

About the birth plan, very good idea to have one but also remain flexible because things definitely do not go as planned. And Christina, you were very smart to try to breastfeed right away. I have decided that next time, I will insist that I try to breastfeed immediately after birth. For Declan, they took him away and had me sleep for a few hours before they brought him to me to try. I know that was not the only factor in his difficulty to breastfeed, but next time I want to make sure I try everything I can to ensure a successful breastfeeding experience right from the beginning.

@Autumnchick: I'm so sorry you have to go through all this. All the best for today and tomorrow and I hope little Declan will be doing better soon. You are in my thoughts.

Adam has his first Dentist Appointment today. I had an appointment for August 20 but told them that I'd like to be called if there's an earlier date, so I don't have to carry babygirl with me. Yesterday she called again and asked if we could come in today...HECK YES WE CAN  . Our insurance doesn't cover dental so I'm ready to spend some moneys today.

Autumnchik-i'm glad they finally got it in. What time is the surgery? Even still with the breastfeeding, you have done an awesome job.

Even though I wanted to breastfeed right away, b/c of the c-section it was about 3 hours after that I could try. So it wasn't really right away either...and as you know it didn't work out well for us! But at least I was able to try as soon as he was allowed to come into the room from the nursery. One reason for the delay was blood tests since there was meconium in the uterus, and they wanted to make sure he hadn't ingested any before bringing him to me.

I didn't see Adam until 4 hours after birth and in the hospital now they keep the baby in the nursery for 4-6 hours after a c/s. I'm hoping for another breastfeeding natural as Adam was.
