I need a little bit of help with a big problem. I know this might be a little to much info, but I am dying here. Over the last three to four days I've started experiencing terrible nipple pain. Pain to the point of tears. I'm putting all the nipple creams on that I can find for sore cracked nipples. But my nipples aren't cracked, therefor I'm not getting much relief. I still have another 7 weeks to go before the baby's due and if the pain continues I'm going to go crazy. Last night at work I put hot packs on my breasts' and it helped but as soon as I take the heat off the pain comes back. I can't get in to see my OB till next Thursday as she's away. Anyone have an idea on what could be causing this pain and any way I can make it go away? If this pain and discomfort continue I don't think I'll be able to breast feed. I checked my nipple and there's no discharge and my breasts aren't hard so I don't think I have mastitis? I just need a quick fix. Any ideas, suggestions please.

I had that at some point during the last trimester of my pregnancy. Just getting into the shower was pure torture, or even just wind blowing was extremely painful. There wasn't much that helped me (except Lansinoh creme) but it went away after a couple of days.

I think it's mother nature's way of preparing you for the "joys" of breastfeeding.... I know it seems like a bad joke, but it will get better.

Hmm it almost sounds like you are engorged or your milk came in. I only remember nipple pain during a letdown. Before that I never had it. Try not to stimulate them (I bet you aren't already) but other than that I have no advice. I'm sorry.

I'm back in Canada for another 4 weeks so I can't really call the triage OB nurse, we don't have one. (I have to finish work in order to get my maternity benefits). I tried going to the on call OB this afternoon but I waited in the office for an hour and a half and left as she was really behind and I had another appointment to go to and I was late for it. I tried calling the clinic back as they have an on call doctor, but mostly for emergencies and this does not classify as an emergency. So I than called the birthing unit at the local Maternity hospital, they were busy, kind of rude and told me to call my OB. So I'm at home thinking a glass of something strong would help and two hot packs on my boobs waiting for my 9 am appointment with just a regular on call doctor tomorrow. If this is nature's way of preparing me for breast feeding I'd like to hand it back to mother nature and say next.

i didn't want to go back to work either...so i am going to go back to school online..i'm happy i am able to stay at home with her!!

Shauna that is wonderful! I am just glad I planned my pregnancy perfectly. She came with only 6 weeks left in the school year. So I don't have to start work until August 18th. Babysitting is no joke though so expensive its going to cost 600 dollars a month. How much is normal?

Shauna what are you going back to school for?

I have been able to come on for awhile. Jaylyn goes for her 2 month appointment next week. I can't believe it and she has gotten huge. I wouldn't be suprised if she has not gained 6 pounds from birth. Breastfeeding now is going wonderful. She refuses a bottle and likes nursing. It is hard to go out now. My mom babysat her and said i can't get her to sleep I fed her 4 ounces. I laughed and said you jugs aren't full. I feed her a little and she was asleep. Wondering if my mom will help again she was really worn out by her. My husband heard her colic scream for the first time and freaked out. He is usually at work when this happens. I wonder when that period stops. She does it only once a week thank goodness. Besdies that I have been takening her on lots of walks in her stroller. Love it.

O.K. I am going to try to catch up before she wakes up.

Much Love

J

stina thanks for the heads up on the generic formula...the good news is, either zaid is tricking me, or this formula is already causing a significant change in only 24 hours, we managed to shop for 5 hours, and were in and out of the car nearly 10 times, he never cried, he is now going 3-4 hours between feedings rather than 2-3, and he is contently sitting in his swing, talking to the fishies hanging from it, and is not whining, fussing, or crying...his cries the past 24 hours have just been fussy whines and are no longer SCREAMING fits...god almighty, i pray this did it...

Oh my gosh that is wonderful!! Is the formula still working?

My little girl is still feeding every 2 to 3 hours. But last night for the first time she slept 4 hours.

have you tried cool packs instead of hot packs? if it is your milk coming in- then that could trigger an infection and make things worse in the end.

Ditto Cold Packs worked for me

I feel for you at going back to work soon. I have another 2 months, but am already starting to dread leaving my guy.

I have to return to work on the 30th and I'm REALLY starting to freak out! I am the primary financial provider for my family, so I have no choice. Simply put, however, I just don't know how I am going to do it.

I get more depressed every passing precious day.... :(

Hang in there!! :) I know it will be hard. Do you have sitter to watch your little one or day care?

I understand being the primary financial provider. Everyone ask me if I am returning to teaching in the fall. I say yes of course because hubby going to college doesn't pay for our bills. Can't wait until he graduates in 3 or 4 years.

@Ks: glad he's doing better! hey looks like our boys were born just 1 ay apart! Ben is 6 weeks tomorrow and we're headed for the postpartum check tomorrow too.

It's weird, he weighs exactly the same as Zaid as of last Friday when we went to the doctor! Little monster.....

I was planning on going back to work asap but I decided not to. Thank God, we can swing it financially for a while longer, I couldn't leave him yet. Who is taking care of your babies? I don't know if its better to find a nanny/babysitter or a day care center. what do u mommies recommend?

I'm definitely gonna get one of those army helmets with a fake bush on top, so I can go spy on my baby while he's at day care/school/college... I don't know, I just don't think I can EVER trust someone with him.... I'm that paranoid.

On another note- did u start losing hair too after u had your babies? My hairbrush looks like a puppy and I'm seriously worried about going bald soon if it doesn't stop. :help:

LOL  that is so cute the helmet!!

We have a babysitter she watches our neighbors 2 daughters and is willing to watch Jaylyn. Thank goodness Jaylyn only has to go for 20 hours a week and hubby will have her the rest of the time.

I am so sorry to hear about your hair. Have you talked to anybody about this? (F) No hair loss here.

I have to say, not that I'm rubbing this in, but my maternity leave from Canada will allow me to stay home with my baby for a little over a year. My Maternity benefits will pay my salary at a 100% for 6 months and the last 6 months are at 55% of my salary. I think it will be nice to be home with the baby for the first 6 months and than slowly ease my way back into the work force. I've worked here in Canada for 4 years while waiting for my paperwork to come through and got pregnant by accident. But it's a good accident and now I get the benefits of working here in Canada. I know I'm going to be sadly disappointed when we have baby number two and my maternity leave is so much shorter in the States. I do notice a difference with the cost of health insurance. With every test I do in the States we get a bill for what ever the insurance doesn't cover while here in Canada it's all covered. It's quite the eye opening experience. It makes me wonder how women do who don't have insurance have kids. How does one afford to have a child? And looking for a day care/child provider is hard too. There's nothing in my area. Not even a babysitter, but we do live in a small towm. I think I might be flying my mother down a lot more to babysit.

Wow! That is so awesome!!

I have to say if you don't get married or the 2 married people are below average income levels you can receive great health care. They can have a baby her with no expensive. I know this because my brothers girlfriend had my niece 2 years ago. My brother is a farmer so he also qualifies for health benefits. They actual have the best health care in the state. She didn't pay a single dime for her baby girl. Then with the WIC program she got all the milk for free and she could go to the farmers market with a 15 dollar coupon to get free fresh vegs and fruit. Her baby wellness checks are paid to. Sometimes it is frustrating to me that we don't at least qualify for WIC. We make just a little to much.

The other thing that stinks is that you work but make just a little to much to qualify and can't get theses services if you don't have health insurance.

carrie, why did the doc want him on nutramigen? i know alot of babies get on it for milk allergies, but zaid didnt have that.....well let me know...the gentleease still seems to be making a difference, the babies poops today were kinda runny but i figure thats just from switching formula in general...

today was my first day back to work, 9 hours away from the lil man...i couldnt wait to get home to love him and alas, he is passed out...i think daddy is exhausted from today...well at least now he knows how i feel...i do have my sis in law watching him 2 or 3 days a week now, so daddy will only have him 2 whole days...the best part is my sis in law will only charge me 15$ a day...cant beat that!!

That is great 15 bucks a day!!

I can't wait for hubby to see what I go through too. SO cute that he was passed out.

in minnesota for a family of three you can't make over $50, 000 or slighty more i belive trust me we are not poor but by no means rich. I could be wrong as i think they recently increased the limit. look online for wic in your state

In GA you must have an income at or below 185% of US Poverty Income Guidelines; be a state resident; and be at nutritional or medical risk, as determined by a health professional.

That counts us out....that sucks!

Wow I just wrote about this. Yeah it sucks big time we make 450 dollars to much a month. Maybe I should call and see if we could get it. Does not hurt to try. Thank goodness I am nursing. I have only used 1 big can of formula sense she has been born. I am just thinking ahead to when she goes to the sitters. Maybe I should see if we could find a sitter for 15 bucks a day and bargain hunt now. We had only budgeted 500 dollars so maybe I will call this sitter and she if she is willing to take 500 dollars. Going from 30 dollars a day to 25 a day we could handle.

That sounds around right, unfortunately. May even be cheap for an infant. Most places here charge between $150 and $200 a week for infants up to one year. Centers tend to be more expensive than in-home licensed daycares.

The only bright spot is that they do get cheaper in daycare costs as they get older. After the 1st birthday, costs start to drop. I pay $100 a week for my 2 year old for in-home care. I think that is about the floor until after-school care starts.
