Thanks for the advice... I guess I will leave it packed and wait and see how we will work out breastfeading! :) The size shouldn't be a problem, pre-pregnancy I was a B, so I guess that's ok...

As mentioned in the German thread: get well Evi, I hope you feel much better soon. Those stomach bugs just are terrible!

@ Chnst: BPA is bisphenol A, it's similar to other phtalates. It is allowed by the FDA and German authorities to be in baby bottles, but there is some concern about the negative effects it might have. I generally avoid plastics anyway so call me a little paranoid about it... My sister has the Avent system even though she isn't a fan of BPA, but she will breastfeed most of the time (due date July 25th) and just use it occasionally. For the pacifier I'd try to find something that has no BPA since he sucks on it so often:

http://www.diapersetc.com/categories/pacifiers/ (just one hit from Google). The only thing about silicone is that once they have teeth they might bite some parts off... I'd switch to natural latex at that point to be safe.

Eveline - How scary. Glad you and baby are doing okay :)

Chnst - I love the pics! He is precious :)

Anna - I have the Medela pump in style. For me, since I am having problems breastfeeding, it has been a godsend. If the breastfeeding goes well though, you may not need a double electric pump. I agree with the advice just to play it by ear and see how it goes before purchasing a pricy pump.

Hi...I mentioned we had to go to the Dr today. We went to a pediatric urologist.

Well, Kavi has to get a surgery on his boy part.... :( I haven't talked about this before b/c we weren't sure if it was going to come to this or not. He was born with hypospadia...a malformation of the #######. He can pee fine but the hole it's supposed to come out of it doesn't, it comes out from a tiny hole slightly below it. I never noticed that hole til the Dr showed us today, the pee looked like it was coming out of the right place but it only looked that way. Also his skin wasn't fully formed around, he looked halfway circumcised at birth. We weren't planning on circumcising but of course it will be done with the surgery as well. Also his boy part curves down when pulled up. So the surgery is outpatient at least, it will fix the curve and the hole, and then he'll have to have a catheter in place for a week after surgery so his pee drains into his diaper. :( He'll have to go under anesthesia too. So it won't be done for a few months, probably when he's around 9 months old. We will go back in 4 months and then the surgery will be scheduled. My poor little boy! The Dr said it's not very rare, 1 in every 100 boys born has it. So weird.

So today was a busy day, we had to go down to Tampa for the appt. I'm tired out! I drove all around Tampa.

aww Stina, I'm sorry to hear that Kavi needs surgery! When I worked as a pedi nurse in germany we had a baby with hypospadia about once a week. It's one of the more common "rare" things in pediatrics and all the little boys I've seen recovered within a few days!

It's usually done when they're old enough for anaesthesia and pain reliever afterwards, so he won't be in pain from the procedure.

@nannygirl; thank you! he smiles a lot, especially when his little belly is full after he eats. :star:

@Anna: thanks for the info. I'm not going to make myself crazy over that. I grew up with plastic stuff and I'm ok. It's just another thing to worry about, and as long as its FDA approved its ok for me.

I might get him a new binkie though....

she smiles when she sleeps....and of course i never have the camera....oh well when she gets older...

i know you said something about the binkies...i really didn't want kaila to have one at all...from all the reading i had done about them....well that all went out the window when a hour after she had just eat(wasnt even a day old) and was so upset....broke down and got out the binkie and gave it to her and she was good to go...so i guess some babies just need that extra sucking feeling....oh well...as long as she isn't in college and still needing one

haha, I didn't want him to have a pacifier until he's at least 3 weeks old, well it lasted 48 hours and the Binkie was HIS

he's not confusing it with my nipples and it's supposed to pevent SIDS, so I'm not too worried. I'd rather have him suck on a pacifier than his thumb.

Stina,

My little boy was also born with hypospadia. We have a consult with the urologist in July, but the surgery won't be until he is between 6 and 9 months old. The doctor also told me that it was pretty common. Doesn't make it less scary for us moms though!!! I'll be thinking of you when it comes time for Kavi's surgery. Keep us posted as it gets closer to the date.

Oh no, Stina, all the best to little KAvi, poor little man.

About BPA. I dumped all my playtex bottles and had every visitor from Germany bring me glas bottles from NUK. I have never really used them since Adam never took a bottle. The 'funny' thing with BPA is, that even only ONE FEEDING with a BPA bottle does the damage so it's not a matter of 'I won't use it that often'. Once it's in, it's in. There are a couple of plastic bottles without BPA out there. Medela is very good, there are some from sassy, Walmart and Born free. It's not impossible to get them anymore. I've heard that Dr. Brown will start a glass bottle line. Avent and Dr. Brown are apparently the worst when it comes to BPA. A lot of moms I know trust Avent since it's a European (Austrian???) company and they thought it was ok but it's unfortunately not. If I do use plastic then I make sure I don't heat anything up in it. I heat up Adams milk in a glass and then put it in his sippy so the sippy cup doesn't get all heated up in the microwave. Here's another list of what's ok and what's not: http://zrecs.blogspot.com/2007/07/z-report...ycarbonate.html

about pacis. Adam has 11 teeth now and he has NEVER bitten anything off his binky. He rather likes his bed, dirt or anything else to bite on but sure not his paci, that is there for sucking and sucking only. I never wanted to give him a pacifier but - like so many moms here - I kinda 'forgot' about that about one day after he was born. Pacifiers make it a lot easier although there are a lot - especially breastfed - of babies out there who don't take a paci. Mine must be an excuse, he's loving his.

binkies are a lifesaver.

:)

Ayman is obsessed with his paci. Now if I could just strap it to his head to keep it from falling out.

Eveline - I'm glad you are doing better.

Stina/Autumnchik - Sorry to hear about your little boys wee wee problems. I hope the surgeries go smoothly and it clears it up.

Everyone else - CUTE babies!!!

My little guy has not been a happy camper lately. He was constantly crying no matter what I did. Crunching up like he had a tummy ache all the time, tons of gas and going poopie was a major ordeal for him. We went to the Dr Monday and he's got Colic and a little infection on his finger. Dr changed his formula for the colic and antibiotics for the infection. He seems to be doing better on the new formula, but the medicine makes him spit up a lot more and gives him diarrhea.

Other than that, I am soooo not looking forward to going back to work. :crying:
