But the good thing is that after you have kids AF gets much much better in most cases..before having my son I used to be very sick because of my period and nothing would really help much (not even BC) , now I don't even notice when it starts almost!

autumchik: congrats on your supercute little boy! I'm using a nipple shield for breastfeeding too, since Ben doesn't latch on the bare nipple anymore, since our second stay at the hospital (the nurses didn't allow me to touch him for 2 days when I had my fever) Luckily I have enough milk, I just hate that nipple thing!!

It's common for babies to lose 10% of their birth weight, but they should regain those 10% within 10 days.

Your baby is on the tiny side, maybe thats why he has trouble latching on. I think you're doing the right thing supplementing formula until he gets a little stronger. I would pump the right side to build up a milk supply. I hope you got some help from your lactation consultant! I can't believe how hard breastfeeding is, Ben is almost 3 weeks old and we're just getting the hang of it.

ks: OMG your baby is so cute!

I cannot believe that one needs a written statement from the other parent in order to cross the american border with baby! Is that really true??? If it was a one-way ticket, ok, maybe that's justified, but going to Canada? come on!!

Wacken: sounds really like the us-canadian immigration officers suck! You seem to have had bad luck with these guys!

congrats on all the cute babies, Jess and Evi, good luck, I can't wait to see more baby pics! :star:

Wacken: sounds really like the us-canadian immigration officers suck! You seem to have had bad luck with these guys!

The US POE officer who was asking about the father of my daughter was pretty much the only outstandingly rude US side POE officer my husband or I have ever had. The rest have been nice to acceptably gruff. The US POE officer coming back from our first trip to Canada just wanted to blah forever with my husband about Germany and how he used to live on some military base there. Really was nice and beyond asking for a return ticket back to Germany, did not question my husband´s intent to return after re-entry (we hadn´t applied for a IR-1 yet). We had that, so it was all good. It is just basically Canadian officers that both of us seem to have problems with, mostly because they want to play US POE officer when they don´t have really much clue how to do that. Nothing against Canada though. We obviously keep going back, despite the known hassle.

I believe I forgot to congratulate you on the birth of your son. He is gorgeous! :star: I am sorry that the birth was so complicated though.

Chnst - I really needed to read your post tonight, thank you so much. This breastfeeding thing is harder than I ever imagined. It is nice to know that others have struggled too. I just began taking fenugreek so hopefully that will build up my supply.

How are you feeling, by the way?

hey, you're welcome girl! I'm feeling a lot better, I'm walking on a walker and crutches and only need the wheelchair for longer distances. yay!

Hubby goes back to work tomorrow and my mom went back to Germany last friday, so I'm gonna be on my own soon.

It feels like the only thing that is really restricting me is my boobs! But that is getting better these days too! hang in there with the breatfeeding, i think it's worth the trouble!

Wacken: :) thanks!

@Belwin: Do you pump? I'd pump and supplement so your boobs keep making more milk. Baby is just gonna get more and more demanding and breastfeeding is a supply and demand thing. It's unfair how some women make too much milk (see me or Chnst) and some women - unfortunately - don't make any milk at all. Why can't all make the same amount...don't get it...Nature is a weird thing  .

@Chnst + autumnchick: Sorry, you have to use nipple shields, I've heard these things are a pain in the butt. Hope and wish for you that it will get easier over time. Some babies get it only after a couple of months when they are strong enough. Soon enough they figrue out how to open your bra and just latch on (Adam did that in the end..he just came up and docked right on).

As for me...I can't breathe these days. I wish that baby would just engage a little bit. I'm wheezing like a chain smoker and have problems sitting in the car for too long because of all these frigging braxton hicks contractions. Feels like the baby is gonna fall out of me, argh.

I had a quick question. I finally got on my husbands insurance (Kaiser) and my husband just lost his job cause they are going under. We're looking to get Cobra insurance to keep the insurance current until my husband can get a new job. Am I able to stay with the doctor at the Kaiser clinic, or do I have to go somewhere else?

I just went for my 1st prenatal visit today and had an ultrasound done. I'm 13 weeks along and I really like the people at the Kaiser clinic. It would be a shame to have to go somewhere else, but it's something I'm prepared for just in case.

Any help would be greately appreciated.

Mary

It is my understanding that if a company goes bankrupt and no longer exists, there is no COBRA. If it is reorganization, then yes, COBRA would be available and it would be the same plan that you are on now. If the company is gone, you need to get some coverage from the state, because other insurance companies probably wouldn't take you on with your "preexisting condition.:

I was just talking to my mom back in Canada about all this and she said theres no reason why I can't stay with Kaiser, but just pay the full amount, instead of the discount my husband had through his employer. I'm not sure how the whole insurance thing works either. The company isn't going bankrupt or no longer exists, they are just closing their doors. There will be only 4 people staying employeed. Those are the 2 who own the company, their secretary and a supervisor. If any work comes up in the future, they had asked my husband if he would come back and he said yes. I'd like to get Medicaid, but I don't qualify because I don't have a green card yet. The woman at the health dept told me about another program I do qualify for. It's Babies Born Healthy. I can get on it in July, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to wait that long for coverage. Either way, I'm sure we'll get something figured out. I do thank you for your help.

yes these nipple shields are a pain.... I am constantly running the sterilizer and these things are clear, so they get lost easy. I tried weaning him from them ,but he got so upset and frustrated last night that he threw up.

hey you should come visit me in NYC! we are in the 50ies, it's freezing cold and I got my wintercoat back out.

hang in there, just a couple more weeks and your little girl is here! :star:

thanks Tracy! how old is your little guy now?

@nannygirl: she's so adorable! where did you go for the pictures? We didn't get any pics done yet, we wanted to get some birth announcements, but he had jaundice during week 1 and we didn't have time the last 2 weeks with our move.

can someone recommend a good place to go for these pics?

I heard good things from SEARS and Babies R Us, but they charge A LOT for a small package of 8 pics.
