No, it would not be considered kidnapping. It is only kidnapping if you don't come back to the US. I never travelled alone with adam (only back from Germany to the US) and even though I have heard that some moms had this letter, I have never heard of an actual case where that letter was requested. If it makes you feel better though, go ahead and get it.

So as long as nobody says the child got abducted, everything is good? I am just wondering about this, because I'd think that if a parent just took the child out of the country and the other parent states it was without consent, it would be kidnapping, right?

(Not saying, this would be the case here, but just in theory?)

I took Adam's passport pictures myself...see here: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x244/Ev...am/DSC02189.jpg  My neckless monster. He was about three months old. I fortunately got the measurements right so that I only had to make the pic smaller and print it out. It was accepted with no problems from the German consulate and the USPS. I don't think a SSN is necessary http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/79955.pdf and we had the passport after two weeks.

Yesterday was nasty, sooo humid. boy, I guess I'll get me some icepacks to hang on my body during the summer. Luckily I found a really good group of moms around here who know all the splash parks in the area so I know I'll get soaked at least once a week AND we have a big backyard and a garden hose so I can hose myself down when it gets too hot.

oh mansorry you have to be preggo during the hot months....i would have been a MESS!! i was a mess during the winter i always had the ceiling fan on and no covers i was always HOT!!!

I had a weird experience with 'kidnapping' at the US border. The POE officer demanded to know where the father of my baby was and if he knew I was taking her out of the country. I am the USC trying to come back to the US so was a bit puzzled. My husband was just a bit behind doing something else, so it was alright, but the POE officer was pretty nasty with me. I am not sure what he would have done if I could not have produced my husband.

I don't understand how it'd be kidnapping... Don't moms or dad take their kids alone on trips sometimes out of the country? It doesn't seem like it'd be uncommon. Maybe I just don't know much about it.

I had a quick question. I finally got on my husbands insurance (Kaiser) and my husband just lost his job cause they are going under. We're looking to get Cobra insurance to keep the insurance current until my husband can get a new job. Am I able to stay with the doctor at the Kaiser clinic, or do I have to go somewhere else?

I just went for my 1st prenatal visit today and had an ultrasound done. I'm 13 weeks along and I really like the people at the Kaiser clinic. It would be a shame to have to go somewhere else, but it's something I'm prepared for just in case.

Any help would be greately appreciated.

Mary

I would think you would be able to stay with the same doctors. Isn't Cobra just a continuation of the same insurance plan the company had, except that you now have to pay for it without the company subsidizing any? I've had several clients that lost their insurance through their work, got Cobra, and were still able to see me as a provider (mental health not medical, but seems like it would be the same).

Good luck :)

Eveline - Oh, I feel for you with the summer heat. Spend as much time in a swimming pool as you can!!!

MrMrsKnight - Congrats :)

Wacken - Which border point were you trying to cross when you had that experience? My in-laws told us today that they are flying into Montreal in 2 weeks. I will need to drive up there to pick them up since hubby will be at work. I wasn't sure how difficult it will be to cross the border with the baby, or if I even can. I definitely won't have enough time to get him a passport. Am planning on calling both Canadian and US border officials to ask what documents I can show to cross with baby (I am not sure we will even have a copy of his birth certificate by then, not sure how long it takes for the town to register his birth).

In response to a couple questions:

Declan's jaundice is much better. His level dropped from 17 to 11.6 in 36 hours, which is why the doc discharged him yesterday. We went for a follow up today and he has gained more weight back ( now is 6 lbs 9 oz).

As for the weight loss after his birth, yes that is normal. I think the doc was concerned about the loss coupled with the jaundice though. If it was just the weight loss, not a problem. But babies get rid of bilirubin by pooping and since Declan wasn't eating as much, he wasn't pooping as much. Doc didn't want his weight going down even more.

He is starting to latch better now, although only on my left breast. No matter how hard I try, I cannot get him to take my right breast. Anyone else have this problem? I am going to see a lactation consultant tomorrow.

Sure, but I guess enough do them without the other parent´s knowledge or permission that there is some curiosity about it. I mean the State department apparently has a whole subsite devoted to international parental child abduction. http://travel.state.gov/family/abduction/S...tions_3860.html

When I was living in Germany, I was watching a news program about a woman whose husband ran off with both their daughters back to Egypt. He left in a note that he thought that German society was corrupting them and making them into poor Muslims. He has to some extent disappeared with the both of them. Egyptian courts aren`t willing to seriously enforce any rulings to bring them back. He is the father.

Autumnchick: The POE was Chicago O`Hare. I was flying in from Frankfurt. I am glad your child is doing better. He is a cutie!

It takes as long as it takes. If you are breastfeeding, it tends to take longer, sometimes up to 2 years. If not, it can return as fast as 6 weeks. I did not breastfeed past 2 weeks, but it took 3 months for my period to return anyway. Some people breastfeed non-stop and bam it is there at 6 or 7 weeks. Hard to say.

I agree. If you are breastfeeding it might take up to a year or until you stop breastfeeding. If you are bottle feeding it might take three months maybe five...There is no real timeframe...your body needs time to get back to normal.
