Hey everyone :) We came home today from the hospital. I am so relieved to be home. One of the factors that prompted the hospital admission was that Declan had not been feeding all that well and had dropped from 6 lbs 14 oz at birth to 6 lbs 3 oz. at the follow up doctor's visit. The doc said that, if he had been eating really well, he may not have admitted him. Rationally, I know it is not my fault, but emotionally I feel like it is .... if the nursing had been better, then maybe he wouldn't have had to go back into the hospital. The nursing is getting better, but it is still so difficult. He seems to latch on and have a few good sucks, but then puts his tongue to the roof of his mouth and breaks it. We are using a shield, I still haven't been able to get him to latch onto my nipple directly. We have been supplimenting with pumped milk and with formula. I really want him to be exclusively breast fed, but am a little paranoid now that he was jaundiced and feel that he needs to eat anything. The lactation consultant told me not to try to get him to latch for more than 20 minutes (at the hospital, we had been trying for more than an hour most times).

I'll be writing about the experience whenever I can get to the computer.

Good luck to Jess and Eveline - you guys are next!!!

Love the new cute baby pics!

Hope everyone had a good Mother's day :)

Here is a pic of Declan.

autumnchick- I hope, things will get better and easier with the breastfeeding. It is absolutley not your fault that he lost weight and I am sure, he will regain it in no time.

Has the jaundice cleared up all the way already?

The pic of him is soo cute!!

Oohhh, Jess. Happy last couple of days..enjoy it (if you can).

It is sooo humid here. When I went outside earlier my sunglasses got all foggy...it's unbelievable. I've got to find a pool soon, otherwise I won't make it through the summer.

Yayyyy jess....almost time!!

Amen to that. I got pregnant in June last year and I was just starting to get a good bump to haul around when the good ol Texas summer heat was really bearing down. One lovely day during the heat wave, one of the construction workers in our office building had an accident that caused a major evacuation. We all got tossed out of the building for 2 hours in the middle of the day. Lemme tell ya preggasaurus rex here had a tree staked out all to herself LOL.

AC don't feel bad he lost all that weight. Our little girl was 6lbs 11oz and when we left the hospital she was 6ibs 3oz. After 2 weeks at home she was 7lbs6ounces. It took me a week to get the breast feeding down. I suppliment with one bottle of formula a day because my supply can't keep up with demand. My little one feed the first week a 1/2 hour on each breast. How is the jaudice? Very cute baby pic!!

Question? Has anyone got baby passport pics done? Where did you have them done? What is need to get a babies passport? Do you just need pictures and a birth certifacte? Or do you also need a soc card? If a soc card how long does it take to get one?

Thanks

I took Adam's passport pictures myself...see here: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x244/Ev...am/DSC02189.jpg  My neckless monster. He was about three months old. I fortunately got the measurements right so that I only had to make the pic smaller and print it out. It was accepted with no problems from the German consulate and the USPS. I don't think a SSN is necessary http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/79955.pdf and we had the passport after two weeks.

Yesterday was nasty, sooo humid. boy, I guess I'll get me some icepacks to hang on my body during the summer. Luckily I found a really good group of moms around here who know all the splash parks in the area so I know I'll get soaked at least once a week AND we have a big backyard and a garden hose so I can hose myself down when it gets too hot.

I need your urgent advice. I entered US on Immigrant visa, however my baby is American Citizen that was born in Ukraine (the country I come from). I am planning to go back to Ukraine with my baby but without my US hubby/

DO I need any kind of paper saying that he allows me to take the baby out of US?? Do they require papers like that in US?

I am asking because in Ukraine they rerquire the notary approved letter sayig that the othe parent allows to take a baby abroad/

I am not certain but I strongly assume that you need a notarized letter from him, agreeng that you leave the US with the baby...specially if your baby has US papers.

Otherwise, wouldn't that be considered kidnapping?

No, it would not be considered kidnapping. It is only kidnapping if you don't come back to the US. I never travelled alone with adam (only back from Germany to the US) and even though I have heard that some moms had this letter, I have never heard of an actual case where that letter was requested. If it makes you feel better though, go ahead and get it.

Here is a pic of Declan.

I thought it was normal for them to lose weight in the first week regardless of how they are fed? At least that was what I was told. I think my daughter's weight at birth was 3410g and her weight on release was 3170g. They said that was fine as long as she regained it within two or three weeks.
