I was wondering. Autumnchick had her baby...who's next. Is it my turn again??? I can't wait to meet my little girl but first I'm waiting for my diaper covers. I ordered some covers online but those I have to sew myself. I must admit, I'm getting crunchier by the day. Eric bought me a sewing machine and I wasn't too happy about it since I have two left hands with only thumbs but once I started...I was hooked. I made a fleece diaper soaker for overnight for Adam, curtains for our doors and some diaper liners (so the diaper won't soak as fast). Also my next project is to shorten mine and Eric's Sling for baby (they are both a tad too long) and then I guess I'll go ahead and learn how to sew shirts and skirts...

Happy Momma's day to all of you ladies out there. Enjoy it.

congrats autumnchkik! Happy mothers day to all!

I'm still having extreme trouble breastfeeding. my baby is doing fine, I have to wake him up for a feeding, but my breasts are so sore and swollen, it got to a point where I pumped up to 400ml every 90 minutes!!!! Ben is basically choking on my boobs because they're overproducing. I tried so many things, like expressing milk instead of pumping and ice packs but nothing works.

I've been reading up online and I think I shouldn't pump so much, but it's killing me having them so full. I think I've slept maybe a half hour at a time during the last week and I don't know how much longer I can do this. :crying:

You can do it...I can understand your pain. Have you tried the cabbage leaf method? It might sound odd but it's supposed to work really good. Let me find a link for that: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/engorgement.html . I have Kellymom in my favorites. It is - in my opinion - the best pro breastfeeding site out there. It will get better, believe me. It took me about 3 motnhs until my breasts weren't as engorged anymore in the morning and I thought there was something wrong with my milk supply while in fact it had only finally adapted to Adam's needs. I was just like you, I could have fed the entire street with my milk. As I said before, just kinda massage it out when you can, even between feedings. Stay strong, it'll get better.

Happy Mother's Day everyone!!! I have a lot of posts to catch up on :)

We arrived home from the hospital this evening (FINALLY!!!). I'll post more about my experience later. Just wanted to say hi and thank everyone for the good wishes.

Have to go feed baby boy now. He is getting better at latching, but it still takes awhile.

Edited to say: OOPS! Didn't realize my hubby was still signed in under his name when I posted. This is Autumnchik.

I'm so happy for you autumnchick!!! Happy Mother's Day...to everyone here. Personally, I felt so blessed today. It is a miracle to wake up each morning and see my child's perfect little angel face. I might just be the happiest Mommy in the world :luv:

chnst...I often feel as though my son is choking on my milk, too, there is so much at times (but only on one side, for me...) I really hope you find a solution to your problem. The only thing I can suggest is to let your breastmilk expel into a towel or burp rag during the "let down", and then continue with the nursing. This should ease the flow amount going into your baby's mouth.

Question to all: How long did it take for your baby to lose their umbilical cord stump? My son is 5 weeks old and it is still securely fastened to his belly button. Not cool.

ONE DAY AT A TIME....

it should fall off in 7 - 14 days... are you still cleaning it with alcohol? if not, try cleaning with alcohol with each diaper change... you want to get down where the stump connects with the skin...

in over 10 yrs of nursing in the women's care field (mostly with infants), ive never heard of a cord being on that long

if its dry and you are keeping it clean, you could just ask your doc at the 6 month check up if it is still there... in the meantime, i would watch for an symptoms of infection, which you should call the doc right away for...

~ fever

~ swelling

~ redness

~ foul smell

~ feeling "mushy"

~ poor feeding

~ lethargic

~ any discharge or bleeding

i tried to edit the last post to add this in, but it just seemed stuck

Hi ladies,

What is this Group B test I keep reading about?

Eveline, your doctor said gaining 19 pounds in 24 weeks is a lot??? I've gained roughly 15 pounds and I'm 17 weeks.. yikes! The doctor I had been seeing, hadn't mentioned this as a problem... I also don't think I've gone crazy eating so not sure why I'm gaining so much weight.

Here's a link about Group B Strep

Thanks!

Tracy-Kavi's fell off around 3 weeks. We had gone to the Dr when he was 12 days old and the Dr showed me how to really deal with the cord since he saw it was still intact. The way he showed me was to lift the sides of the cord slowly, and it exposes the underneath part that is healing and to wipe the alcohol down there. I had just been wiping around the outer edges, not lifting up the edges. If that makes sense. That seemed to get it done.

And when the cord stump does fall off, don't freak out if you see a little bit of blood. Adam had that for a couple of days but as long as the belly button isn't red or oozing or smells funny, it's all right. Just keep cleaning it with a little bit of rubbing alcohol (although I've heard that it is not recommended but I believe it helps dry it up faster).
