hey there, sorry for the delay I ,meant to post the delivery details earlier but I had to be readmitted to the hospital saturday for i.v antibiotics because I got a really high fever. not fun.........

but I was discharged today and I'm feeling a lot better!

so here goes....

Hubby and I went to sleep on the 30th at 1 am. at 2 am I woke up with contractions, but I wasn't sure if it was the real thing, since they already came on like every 4 minutes, but they weren't as painful as I anticipated, so I waited until 3:30 am, woke up hubby and we decided to call the doctor.

He ordered us to the hospital, so I jumped into the shower (warm water does wonders by the way!)

and as we walked into the delivery room at 4:30 my water broke ! The nurse checked me and I was really shocked that I was already 6cm dilated!! My contractions were only 2-3 minutes apart and after my water broke they got a lot more painful, so I opted for an epidural (the best decision of my life!)

It didn't hurt at all and from 6am-9am I was completely painfree, sending text messages to my friends and family in Germany and I even got to chance to take a nap! The good thing abput the epidural was also that it took all my fear of the actual delivery away (at least for a while) .

I started pushing at 9am and Ben was born at 10:56am. I had an episiotomy and I now have more stitches than Frankensteins monster "down there" but I really didn't even feel it!

The complicated part about my delivery was that the baby's head was too big for the passage so I actually broke part of my right hip and my pelvic symphysis got separated. (for you expecting ladies- don't let this scare you, since I was told that this happens extremely rarely, in fact my doctor said he's seen it only twice in the past 10 years)

The bad part about it is that until I was discharged 2 days later nobody could tell me what was wrong with me. I was in incredible pain, I couldn't move my toes and my husband had to carry me back and forth from bed to the bathroom.

The doctors told me that I had torn ligaments and they took x-rays, but they never looked at them until after I was discharged!! They medicated me heavily (I'm taking 2 percocet every 3 hours and it hardly doesn't even touch the pain) but they never tried to figure out why I can't walk.

well, the day I was discharged on friday, the nurses refused to give me painkiller since I signed the discharge paperwork but we had to wait for the baby's jaundice blood results. I thought I was going to die from the pain! Hubby flipped out and we finally found a doctor who pulled out my file and found the x-rays of my hip!

Unfortunately I have to be in a wheelchair for about 4-6 weeks, but I can take a few steps to the bathroom with a walker. I also can't give birth vaginally anymore. :(

But I'm not really planning to have no.2 anytime soon.

I was discharged 2 days after I gave birth and as soon as we got home, I started getting a really high fever. It went up to 104.00 the next day, so we went back to the ER.

My doctor wanted to readmit me right away but he said that I couldn't take the baby with me. :crying: I freaked out, since I really want to breast feed him and that's the only thing I can do, since I can't even change his diaper or pick him up by myself due to my hip condition.

The doctor was extremely rude, he just left and went home without drawing my blood, so we decided to go back home. But my fever got a lot worse to the point where I was delirious so my husband called the doctor again and he found a room for us where I could brong the baby.

so we went back to the hospital saturday night, and I was put on i.v. antibiotics for 2 days. They kicked in really fast and the fever went down this morning, so they sent me home today. They never found out where the fever came from, since I didn't have any other symptoms but I'm glad that it'ss all over now and I'm doing a lot better today! :star:

It all sounds really bad, I know, but looking at my little baby makes all the trouble look so small! He's perfect, I can't believe how much in love I am with him! (L) I totally forget what I went through, when I just look at him! He never cries and breastfeeding went great from day one! I could, in fact supply triplets with my boobs.

Also, I don't know how I could have survived this without my husband. I think he got only a half hour of sleep each night during the past week, but he's been by my side 24/7 taking care of the baby, turning our apartment and house into a handicap-friendly place, driving my mom back and forth from the hospital and taking care of bills, moving furntiture to the new house, making phone calls etc. He's the best! :star:

here's a first pic of Ben, I'm sorry it's a cell phone picture, but our sd card isn't working on the computer, I will post more pictures asap!

Chnst: I am so sorry to hear about the pain you had to go through and the delay in diagnosing you. I am so impressed by your attitude and strength. I hope that if that ever happened to me, that I would react as you did. And your husband sounds amazing.

How long will your mother be staying with you? Will you have to have physical therapy at all?

Your son is beautiful and well worth it!

chnst: CONGRATULATIONS on your beautiful new son. That sucks about your delivery but honestly I had a nightmare delivering both of my kids and once you have that baby in your arms it all kind of fades away, doesnt it. I know its going to be hard to be in the wheelchair for now but it will pass too and really you need to be taking it easy these first few weeks anyway.

by the way, I had a horrible high fever about the 3rd or 4th day after I had my daughter, where I was like shivering to the point of convulsions and they wouldnt release me from the hospital. i found it extremely troubling but no one else seemed all that concerned, and my mother in law told me its very common to get a high fever on the day of or day before your milk comes in. I had never heard that before but its as good an explanation as any.

In any case, take care of yourself and baby and enjoy these first sweet weeks!

I cannot believe how asinine docs can be at times... I am just glad someone finally figured out what was wrong with you, I suppose that neglecting such injury could have led to further damage. thank you so much for your sweet replies, ladies! I'm doing better and better every day! i'M celebrating my 26th birthday today and I don't think I was ever happier in my whole life!

Sara, I totally agree with you- everything fades away when I just hold him. Giving birth was the most amazing thing that ever happened to me, and except for the complications, I can honestly say that I had a fairly easy pregnancy and labor.

we're heading for our first pediatricians visit today!

Thanks for all your well wishes, it means the world to me and it's very encouraging to hear about all your experiences!

Good luck to all the pregnant girls, who's due next? Is it autumnchick? I'm rooting for you!
