Ummm not to scare you Chnst and I know you know a lot of things the doc does since you have worked in the hospital etc but are you sure that they didn't strip your membranes? Just a cervix check shouldn't be hurting or even bleeding. Lots of docs just don't tell you when they strip your membranes. Maybe it will jumpstart you into labor (even though it's still early). Good luck

@Mommy2B, I know I probably sound a little like a tree hugger but have you ever considered a birth center? Midwifes are less invasive and much more patient than hospital nurses. You are no high risk, it's your first child (correct me if I'm wrong) and there are no complications (none expected either) so why not go to a birth center. After all you are not sick, only pregnant and I wish I had gone to a bc with Adam, they wouldn't have induced me, put all those things in me, have six people with their arms crossed in front of me while I was pushing etc.

you know what, I really don't know! I thought that he might have stripped my membranes, but I have never seen it done in Germany and I can't remember it from Nursing school either. How exactly do they do it?

And isn't he supposed to tell me about it?? Or ask for permission? It hurt like crazy and it did feel a lot "rougher" than last week.

The bleeding has stopped now, but I'm really kind of freaked out that he actually did strip my membranes without asking "permission". The nurse just said that he'll do a pelvic exam today when I walked in, so I am really not sure.

Stripping of membranes can be done with or without permission. I find that so invasive. There is something so special going on and one person takes the right to decide over another person (in that case the mother who is completely vulnerable in that position). http://www.childbirth.org/articles/strip.html I never had it done to me - thank goodness and from what I read it's not supposed to hurt but moms who did have it done tell a whole nother story. Maybe it will work for you though. All the best. Come on little Ben.

@KS...yeeeeeeyyyy for the baby boy. Congratulations and have a great time with little Zaid. Can't wait to hear the birth story.

I can't wait to see the first pictures of your little boy chnst.

I have bought little letters with baby girls name, painted them pink and yellow and glued an orange ribbon on it. All I need to do now is put them up in the kid's room. Won't say the name though. NObody knows it yet.

Chnst: Good luck I hope it is the real deal and will be as easy as possible!

Eveline: I find it horrifying that they dare to strip membranes without permission... Thanks for posting that information, another thing to take care of. My doctor sister had never heard about it here in Germany and they sure don't do it - too dangerous (infections is just one thing!). I feel my birthing plan and doctor's visit need to be notarized to ensure nothing is done without my permission... I have discussed all the stuff with my sister and read a lot about methods and medicines - all that Pitocin is crazy. I am happy to be very informed, but very scared that some doctors don't seem to respect reasonable well-decided wishes of their patients in the US...

Eveline, never thought about a birthing center, will have to look into that. It is my first pregnancy and I'm low-risk so far. Will research it a bit more.

By the way, just the phrase "stripping of the membranes" sounds terribly painful.. I shudder at the thought of having that done to me

Congrats to KS and good luck to chst.

The stripping of the membranes got my labor going too. But to be honest it wasn't painful when my midwife did it. I heard so many people saying how horrible it was so I was relieved when it didn't hurt. So maybe it matters who is doing it and if they are rough. I mean it was slightly uncomfortable but nothing bad for me. My midwife may have just been gentle.

An update from MENA: KS71905 did have her little boy, Zaid, early this morning, around 4 I think. Details unknown, but he did arrive. Guess the stripping worked :)

Gosh CHNST...that was quick. HOpe everything goes well and maybe Ben is already here???

@Anna: They do do it in Germany. I think Anne (Joelswife) had it done several times in Germany. My doc asked me if I wanted it done but I was too scared of infections since I was GBS pos. The doctor tried to sweet talk it but I told her that I just didn't want her to do it. She only checked my cervix.
