@Anna:

I bought the CVS test. I was about 3-4 weeks overdue with my period..... went back to buy more tests and they all turned blue the sec I peed on them....

I think you can buy early test kits that can detect pregnancy days before your expected period. Your body starts producing HCG "the preggers hormone" right after you get pregnant and those early tests can detect even very low amounts of that in urine.

good luck to you girl!!

@all: the in laws are insisting on a baby shower at their house (4 hour drive from our place) I'm due May3rd and they want to have it in late April... I'm not sure if that is a good time for me big cow going on a 4 hr car ride. when did you have your showers? did you register? I like babiesr'us but MIL says its a no-no to mention that on an invitation.... so confused.... this is worse than planning the wedding...

also- we are not sure about the car seat. should we get one infant car seat and then a toddler car seat or should we get a combination of the two?

which car seats do you mommies like? I'm kinda anxious to start buying things for the baby, since I'm only 22 weeks along but I really want to get a good one and do a lot of research instead of just going with something that just looks cute.

My sister in law was registered at Right Start and I think Babysrus. You could consider other places too, I think Macy's and that sort of places as well as Burlington Coat Factory. She bought different seats, newborn and then toddler car seats and went with the Bugaboo stroller. They also have a crib that's never been used (she's 9 months now) since they cosleep.

@ Chnst: I had one of those early ones (First Response?) with a faint pink second line.... Harr I can't wait those 3 days to pass now to see if it's for real or only chemical....

This is a good site for baby shower questions: http://www.babyshower101.com/ I found it very useful. IMHO no one should be forcing you to drive 4 hours anywhere when you're about to pop out a baby. But Im all hormonal and opinionated anyway :P . Oh and Ive also got the Eddie Bauer set like Marilyn mentioned. Its faboo.

I have the Eddie Bower one also, its really nice.

I would sooo not be going anywhere at that time of pregnancy thats more than an hours trip in the car.

From what ive seen a lot of times first response has light faint lines. it all depends on how much dye is there to absorb the hormone. take a picture of your test and let us see. also the digital tests make it easier now so we dont have to stare and wonder about lines lol, i used to drive myself crazy with the 'but i see it' thing. Goodluck to you.

My mother-in-law also lives 4 hour away and there is NO way I would drive for the baby shower for 4 hours that late in pregnancy. The last time we went to see her was in the end of October (and I am due in mid January) and it took me a week to recover after that.

I think your in-laws should understand that. Babyrus is great for registering, besides they give you free baby shower invitations with their logo so you don't need to tell anybody were you are registered. :innocent:

I had my baby shower in mid November, 2 months before my due date and I think the timing was perfect. We had plenty of time to pick-up whatever else was needed.

I bought 2 pregnancy tests from Walgreens and they worked just fine. Next day I returned to get pregnancy vitamins and was served by the same lady. She gave me a very understanding smile and a wink.

We bought a travel system from Graco, it is pretty expensive, 250 bucks but it is great. The infant car seat goes up tp 30 pounds instead of usual 22. It will serve us a little bit longer.

Marilyn, I'm so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine the pain you are going through. I'm wishing you and your husband all the best, you are in my thoughts.

Chnst: I'm so exited for you, congrats on your boy.

Anna....... keeping my fingers crossed but considering, that those tests are so accurate, I'm guessing that it was not chemical.

I did a regular Walmart cheapie test and it was a faint positive line. I made hubby go buy two of the first response and I did one in the evening, you could hardly see the line BUT the one in the morning was just RIGHT THERE in your face pink.

I have some nausea, a little worse than with adam but by far I didn't have to throw up yet. I'm just tired all the time. I still didn't see a doctor since we are not insured a this time. I was thinking about going to have a us done while we're in Germany, I should be around 7/8 weeks along by then.

Gotta go, Adam is sceaming his lungs out.

So, I bought the Rite Aid Brand tests since I googled that they have the same sensitivity as First Response and Clear Blue (25 whatever of HCG). But I have to wait until tomorrow morning as it's the best time to test... It's one digital and the other normal ones (hihihi if it's on sale I can't stop it). A woman there kind of was like pitiful (people think I am a lot younger than I am, she prolly thought 18-19, which kinda made me feel mad). Let's see!

Another thing... My lab results for toxo and 5th disease came back. Negative for toxo so hubbie will have to clean the litterbox from now on, hihi. I have to call about 5th disease as I do not know what the results mean:

PARVOVIRUS B19 IGM, EIA, 0.1

PARVOVIRUS B19 IGG, EIA, 3.2

Any idea?

Evi, aren't you eligible for Tricare forever?

I found this that explains how to read the test you took:

Parvovirus B 19 Antibody, IgG

  • 0.89 IV or less: Negative - No significant level of detectable Parvovirus B19 IgG antibody.
  • 0.90-1.10 IV: Equivocal - Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
  • 1.11 IV or greater: Positive - IgG antibody to Parvovirus B19 detected, which may indicate a current or past infection.

Parvovirus B 19 Antibody, IgM

  • 0.89 IV or less: Negative - No significant level of detectable Parvovirus B19 IgM antibody.
  • 0.90-1.10 IV: Equivocal - Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
  • 1.11 IV or greater: Positive - IgM antibody to Parvovirus B19 detected, which may indicate a current or recent infection. However, low levels of IgM antibodies may occasionally persist for more than 12 months post-infection

ETA: not sure how reliable the spource is... :P I'm not as doc, I simply googled what you wrote ;)

On a sidenote...we have Tricare at the moment since hubby is in the Air Force and getting out at the end of this month...they told us we can benefit from Tricare for some time after he gets out, but we still have to verify if it is correct information and exactly for how long. As far as I know you are eligible for Tricare forever only if you/your sponsor retires from the military. I will have better info in not too long.

Congrats to all the mommies/mommies to be (F)

@ Churipu: Mille grazie! I found the same info, but quite frankly I don't know what it means as one of the tests is positive for antibodies and the other one isn't... Oh well I will have to wait for my doc to answer my email... We won't start with Tricare until March (Kaiser til then) which is when hubbie goes to Montgomery AFB for his 3 months training & commission.... As you are familiar with it: do I need purchase a special health coverage for being abroad??? I'm new at this and as long as he hasn't technically joined yet there isn't much info yet...

Prego! :star: Try and visit www.tricareonline.com, although if he hasn't joined yet I am sure you're not very familiar with the terms they use in there when it comes to military stuff... :wacko:This link takes you directly to the page where you can select your beneficiary category (you would be "family of active duty member" and he would be of course the "active duty member"), below that you can select the country you reside in to see the benefits and whatnot that comes with your plan. We personally reside in the US and our plan is called Tricare Prime, I am only familiar with that one and not with the others though, and even mine can be confusing at times :lol: .

There is also a FAQs section on the website, but I didn't go through it so I am not sure it is actually helpful to your questions. BTW you can always give them a call and talk to one of their representative with all your questions Contact Us . PM me for any other question you might have, I feel like I am hijacking the thread

Don't worry though, they will explain everything in detail to your husband.

On a sidenote...Marilyn I hope you're hanging in there and getting through this, hugs for you again. (F)

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE! : :star:

Hi everyone! Happy New years!

I hope you are all feeling well today. I am doing fine. I am in the last stages of getting everything ready. The room is set up and decorated, I started washing baby clothes and blankets(still have more to wash), he's basically set! Just waiting for him now. :)

I have a lot of hip and pelvic pain while in bed, it's so hard/painful turning from one side to the other. That's my major complaint. But I am able to walk around fine, so it's mostly a laying down issue. But I can still sleep for a few hours at a time so that's good.

...

@all: the in laws are insisting on a baby shower at their house (4 hour drive from our place) I'm due May3rd and they want to have it in late April... I'm not sure if that is a good time for me big cow going on a 4 hr car ride. when did you have your showers? did you register? ....

I agree with the others, I don't think it's a good idea to drive that far only a couple weeks(or less) before your due date. Maybe they can have it in very early April or late March instead?

We registered at Target and Walmart, and people usually want to know where you are registered so if it's mentioned nowhere on the invitation or in the envelope, they should expect phone calls asking about it.

My shower was about 3 months before my due date...due Feb 1st, shower was Nov 4th. One reason was the holidays were coming, and it'd be too busy to have it during then. Another reason was because a close friend of mine had her baby 2 months early in 2006, and we never got to have her real shower. So we are doing a lot of things ahead of time because of learning from that, just in case.

To be honest, a month or less before the due date, you are getting more tired out and then you have to put away all the gifts you got, and it can be a rush of things to do. It's better to have the shower a little earlier.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

thanks ladies for all your advice on the shower and baby registry! I spent all day ogling Babies r us yesterday and I really like them and target! I also really like baby gap but it didn't look like they do registries. I ended up buying a couple outfits off their website anyways. sales season- just can't help it. can't wait to see the little man in that stuff...

talked to MIL and we're having the shower in march, we compromised on printing 2 dates on the invitation in case the weather is bad (they live on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere)

Anna: soooooooo..... I don't want to be nosy, but but but- did u take another test????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!

as for 5th disease: I was taking care of kids with 5th disease and got bloodwork done for that at my doctors- I'm immune. He said that most people are immune and if you're not chances are still very slim for birth defects or miscariages and ONLY if you are around 5th disease sources (little booger noses) can you just call the office where you had it done and have them "translate"the results for you?

Happy New Year to you all!!!
