Hi all,

Just wondering how many people out there sent in the affadavits? Are they really optional as some information suggests? My husband's green card expires on January 25, 2008, so we are a little late in sending in our paperwork. I guess I'm just feeling lazy and don't feel like asking people to write a letter-I just want to send this thing in to the VSC in the next couple days.

Our other evidence is the title to our house with both our names on it, joint checking and savings accounts, health insurance cards with both our names on them, joint credit card, 2 years of joint tax returns, electric bill with both our names on it, some photos.

Alot of other things are in my name only, I'm the USC-like car and house insurance, the mortgage (husband had no credit history before), other utility bills, we both have separate 401ks.

Are we just asking for trouble if we don't send the affadavits, especially since we don't have that much time left?

Thanks for your advice.

Gaijin

Folks who have finished this stage of paperwork will have the best info. We sent three letters, including one from the in-laws, just so that we included different types of "evidence" - the letters being of our social life. We will know if they helped or not, if NSC decides to get its act together some day! Personally, I would err on the safe side and send them.

Good Luck!

We submitted 5 sworn affidavits! Overkill? Yes! BUT the more evidence you have, the better. My mother-in-law actually wrote a 15 page document complete with embedded pictures!

Also, one thing to be aware of is the affidavits have to be "sworn" - in other words, the person writing it must sign it in front of a notary public etc. This is something to consider if you feel you are running out of time (and need others to write something for you and get it signed in front of a NP on top of that).

We submitted 6 Affidavits .... TRUELY OVERKILL .... however I didn't want to take any chances as this was our "one-shot" here. I figured that the more "proof" the merrier when it came to the USCIS. Some came from relatives and some came from friends across the country.

While affidavits are "not required" it can't hurt to include 2 or 3 in your package...

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your replies. It sounds like we should include a couple of affadavits-so I better get moving. I will ask a good friend who came to our wedding, and will ask my parents. Thanks for helping me decide. I can't wait until all this is over....no more immigration for 10 years.

We haven't submitted any affidavits. As I said some time back, if our baby, our jointly owned home, our joint accounts, joint insurances, trips and such ain't good enough then no affidavit will turn the tide. Generally speaking, affidavits are some of the weakest pieces of evidence that you submit. They might round out the picture but won't tip a decision on your case one way or the other, IMHO.

Posted

We submitted no affidavits.

Whether YOU should probably depends on the nature of your other evidence.

As you put together your submission, think about a hypothetical sham couple. What would they be submitting? The purpose of your evidence is to submit a package that makes it clear you're not one of them. What do you have that they won't have?

An affidavit probably just proves you've got a friend or two who will vouch for you. I suspect almost any sham couple could get one or two people to vouch for them, especially if they were willing to cough up a bribe in exchange for the affidavit (a lot of sham aliens bribe the USC -- after they've done that, what's another small bribe for the affidavit?)

Now, if your affidavit comes from a source that's very credible in the eyes of the USCIS, the affidavit may hold a LOT of weight. If you live across the street from an immigration judge who sees you coming and going together all the time, by all means take advantage of that situation.
