Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I'm still waiting for the explanation as to why English is a dumb language. I guess I'll be waiting a long, long time.

I don't necessarily agree, I'm not a linguist, but I'd guess that it has something to do with the fact that there's no gender, noun declensions, or complicated conjugation rules.

What language are those from?

Klingon.

Klingon babes are hawt.

German and Latin are two I know.

I would say English is a difficult second (or third or whatever) language for some to learn because the pronunciation and grammar rules are all a-flutter.

It's a very democratic language. English will adopt any word from any country. Or just make up a word as needed. w00t!!

My 6 yr. old stepson is learning to read this year and I'm reminded daily just how many exceptions to rule we have with regard to pronunciation. Like how the hell did the 'gh' in taught become silent, but not in ghetto? The word, 'could' is also a strange anomaly. The word 'was' pronounced 'wuz'. It'd be a lot easier if our pronunciation rules were more consistent.

English is easy to learn but hard to master.

Oh too true, Steven.

In my grad school linguistics classes we learned that when kids start learning the basic rules of English grammar they try to make the language fit the rules. For example, you say "I am not" and you say "I do not." When you contract the second phrase it becomes "I don't." But the first phrase becomes "I'm not." Many kids learning will say "I amn't" because it fits the "rule."

Man, I'm glad I teach high school :)

Just because something is difficult to master it doesn't make it dumb. Regardless, English is incredibly robust and one can pretty much get away with making those gramatical and pronuciation mistakes and still make oneself understood.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Very true. I teach it, so I'd never say it was dumb. But I think it's "misunderstood" (much like teenagers....or emo kids).
