Indeed yes, there is a place where people live and work and speak Spanish; it's called Mexico. In America, enterprising business people speak English.

true to an extent/// when i grew up ..the town was about 70% italian immgirants..there are still people there they do not know english..no need to learn///all business or who they worked for was done in italian///

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

my parents have lived in Canada for over 40 years, and they don't speak English (or French) as well as you think someone should after that long.

Unless you want to stamp out ethnic neighborhoods, it isn't likely to change. There will always be doctors and businesses etc that speak a native language, and that is where many immigrants will go. They will put their kids in English schools and rely on them to translate documents etc. (And then, if those kids are like me and my sisters, they will marry foreigners and run away, leaving their parents with their broken English behind!)

On the flip side, my sister married a European and moved to his country 15 years ago and has become so fluent in his language, that she forgets her English!

Is there any reason why someone wanting to come to America would not want to learn the language of the country as penned by its founders?

And which language would that be? 18th-century English?? I know only a few people who are able to read that language fluently, let alone speak it...

establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt-ridden, delusional and other liberal bed-wetters.

When I read stuff like that, I always wonder if it was in the original version, or a later addition by someone who wants to turn absolutely everything into an anti-liberal diatribe.

I totally missed that part. I'm always surprised at that statement because most of the terminally whiney, guilt-ridden, and delusional I know are not liberal by any means. ;)

Stated, but never legislated. World of difference.

Is there any reason why someone wanting to come to America would not want to learn the language of the country as penned by its founders?

I stated that English was never legislated into the "official language" of the country. I never stated people should not learn English.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

English is the main language of use. That is why people should learn it. It is advantageous to them.

Just like if I moved to China, it would be advantageous for me to learn mandarin or cantonese.

Same goes for Quebeckers who refuse to learn english. gawd that irks me.
