Asians, Blacks and Hispanics like white people more than they like each other

Well,

you had a choice, didn't you? You could have claimed "hispanic" if you wanted?

The more time we spend on each other's race, the less time we have to continue building this country. When I came to the US, I had to chose a race which I had never done before in my life. I came from Latin America with mixed roots. However, my "Caribe" grandparent's genes are much stronger so I went with black. My sister who is much lighter was seen as Hispanic. Didn't matter what my culture was, I wax boxed in with others just by the shade of my skin and not language or experience.

I am shocked that Chispas had to choose a race. However, I am even MORE shocked by Rika's post. Actually, I'm disgusted.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

People expect that stereotypes about certain groups are only absorbed and believed by whites. It reminds me a little of the study in which they asked little black girls to choose a doll between a white and black one, and most chose the white one. When asked why, they responded with stereotypes about blacks.

The video is heartbreaking.

Yup I did choose, but in many cases where the information was filled out for me (hospital, school etc. ) they put what they saw with their eyes. From just looking at me, I felt categorized until I spoke with my then heavy accent. Point being I had to choose. What do other mixed people do?

One of my best friends growing up was black. We lived in the same neighborhood, went to the same school, etc. When we got to middle school, we were shipped to the inner city (they put the best schools, magnet schools, in the inner city to increase white attendance). We didn't think anything of it until the kids from around the school starting picking on Jerome mercilessly. They would always heckle him and call him "Uncle Tom" or "White Boy." He was looked down upon because he did well in school and was my friend.

That was a pretty big realization for both of us at a young age.

That said, I had other friends (whites) growing up that ostricized me for hanging out with the racial slur. I really didn't get it, because he was a better person than any of my other friends and even myself. Luckily for Jerome, his parents never let him buy into any of it.

Racism is a ###### and must be cured during childhood.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

Add me to the "hi, you have a race now" crowd. I think it's quite simplistic, lumping ALL people from Latin American descent into ONE category (either Hispanic or Latino); as if we were all the same; precluding folks like chispas from claiming their Caribbean ancestry based on physical characteristics. Same goes for any pan-category. Agreed, race is a socially constructed concept etc., etc., etc. (here the work of Henry Giroux is a really engaging read), but it does mess with your life and your career: whether you want it to or not.

Let's call them "chispas" from now on.
