Hiya,

My husband and I received our "packet 3" from the Brasilian Consulate in Rio last week stating that our case has been opened and describing the other forms and documents we need to send in and get ready. We have everything in order, except for the Medical exam--We live in the South of Brasil in the city of Porto Alegre... it's a big city, but for some reason the list of doctors that we received doesn't include anything in or near our state of Rio Grande do Sul. In fact, if we go by the list, the closest doctor is 2 states away in Curitiba.

I'm wondering if this list is comprehensive and updated. Is there any way to go to a doctor here in our city, or must my husband travel to one of the cities on the list we received in order to do his medical exam? Are these doctors on the list specially registered to do exams for the US immigration requirements or something? Any advice is helpful!

Best to you all...

Yes, for you the most near is Dra. Miriam in Curitiba.

I am from Santa Catarina and I did my medical there too. And after my raio-x and blood test were ready (need to be done there), she sent to me by Sedex my medical..an envelope that is for to be close and just the consulate will open in the day of the interview...

You can call to her secretary and ask what you can (vacines, other exames) do before to go to the interview...

Good luck

Hi there, I`m from Rio, and the doctor I`ll do my exam with, is right in front of the US consulate. It`s worth calling cause you can do everything in a day. He has contact with labs so the results come fast. You should contact his secretary. Just some advice. Good luck

I've heard that quite a few times, too. It might be worth your while to do it in Rio instead of traveling twice. (Although who doesn't like a trip to Curitiba?) :)

My husband is from Manaus and the closest doctor is in Fortaleza!!!

So once we knew the interview day I set up an appointment with a doctor in Rio for him a few days before the interview. Everything went smoothly.

He did have his vaccines, x-rays, and blood tests all done in Manaus. I verified with the doctor first that it was ok for my husband to have this done at other laboratories and bring the results. It was no problem.
