I'm really confused and I know I'll get easier to understand answers here, rather than calling USCIS. I went to go get a SSN yesterday and I was told that I couldn't get it until I had a green card. That makes no sense to me. I haven't filled out any of the AOS papers yet, but I looked at the forms and on the I-485 it asks for my SSN. So was the lady wrong when she told me I couldn't get a SSN yet?

Also, what is this vaccination supplement? I never got a copy of my medical exam when I had it done and the only thing I got from Dr. Seidens office was a "Vaccination Document Medical Worksheet Two". I'm guessing thats not what I need?

Ok, one more thing. I'll have to get my husbands tax papers together as well and when I went to my interview, I gave them the orginals and the copies by mistake and they didn't return anything to me. I didn't realize this until after I got home. So what will we need to do to get copies of the last 3 years?

I'm sure I'll have more questions about these forms before I send them out, I just can't think of anymore to ask right now lol. I'm so frustrated with immigration. I don't understand why I need to send them some of the information that they already have. It makes no sense to me. Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

The lady (at SSA) was not necessarily incorrect - you don't need a SS# to adjust status - if you don't have one, enter None or N/A on that portion of the form.

The vaccination supplement (I-693A) is what you would send - you get this from a civil surgeon (take your vaccination document with you - this may help) - do a forum search on "I-693A" for tons of discussions on the subject.

Since you have neither copies or originals (really? not a single copy left?) you may need to order IRS transcripts (from the IRS) for each year - they are free.

Nope, no copies. I only made 1 copy to give to MTL at the interview because I was planning on giving my husband back his tax info when I moved here. How long does it take to get those copies from the IRS?

Just wanted to give you my 2 cents worth on this topic.

You CAN get your SSN card before you get your green card. The lady at the SSN office was incorrect.. Check this out - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...om&page=ssn. I do believe that others have just left SSN number blank though on the AOS forms and have successfully adjusted status.

The vacination suppliment is a grey area as well.. a lot of people just submit their worksheet (that you mentioned that you have) and viola no questions asked by USCIS - it's approved. Others (like me) did go through the trouble of getting their worksheet transferred over to the "official" form - I-693A. Take a look here for the fastest and least expensive way I know to get this done (i called a bunch of civil surgeons in our area and it was a hastle to explain that i didn't need a FULL medical just some paperwork pushed).. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=99923

I believe my hubby called an IRS hotline number and just requested them. I think he did manage to get them faxed perhaps? I don't think it too too too long though - i wish he was here today i'd ask him. I'll see what he says later.

The lady at the SSA office is wrong. She was probably thinking of a K-3 person... not a K-1. Going by your timeline, your I-94 is still valid so you are entitled to receive a SSN. Either go back to the office and request to speak with a Supervisor, or try a different office. Take them a copy of this policy (which is theirs):

http://policy.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0100203500

RM 00203.500 Employment Authorization for Nonimmigrants

C. POLICY - EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION BY CLASS OF ADMISSION

The following policy applies to employment authorization by class of admission.

1. Aliens Work Authorized Without Specific DHS Authorization

The following lists nonimmigrants, by alien classification, who are authorized to work in the U.S. without specific authorization from DHS. The alien's I-94 will not have the DHS employment authorization stamp

and the alien will not have an EAD.

This is what I just answered in another thread.....

I did not submit an I-693a.... just a copy of the DS-3025, which is what you have (the Vaccination Document Medical Worksheet). I was approved with no interview and no RFE. If your vaccinations were completed as part of your medical, and your medical is current (within one year) you don't need to provide an I-693a. That's just for K visas who did not complete their vaccinations as part of the K visa process.

Background: Some countries allow K non-immigrant visa holders to defer the vaccinations until after they arrive in the US, which is why they request the I-693A with the AOS submission. If the beneficiary's vaccinations were completed as part of the visa process, they are not required to submit the supplemental vaccination form because all that information is enclosed in the brown envelope handed in at the POE. The envelope is then forwarded on to USCIS where it will be consolidated with the I-485 submission. This is not to say that someone processing the I-485 will not request the information in an RFE. Sometimes the medical gets "lost" during the transfer.

Hi there

I just got the Vaccination sheet (went to Dr Seiden as well) transcribed by one of the local guys here (looked on the USCIS site) I did have to carefullly explain a few times that I didn't need a full medical(go figure the receptionist couldn't speak english very well), but other then that fairly easy...although I think they charged me some random fee because they didn't know what to charge..turned out to be $75 for a sealed envelope with a piece of paper which looks almost the same as Dr Seiden's ...haha

I just put'none' for the SSN field on the form for now........I'm going to apply next week and take the document noted in the guides here which indicates you don't have to have anything in particular and that the K1 is entitled

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...om&page=ssn

The AOS paperwork is a pin in the behind for sure....I'm hoping to get mine out tomorrow

Thanks everyone. I really was wondering why others on here got their SSN before sending off the AOS paperwork and why I'm one of the lucky few that couldnt get it lol. It just made me wonder if the woman at the SS office was just dumb lol. I'm going to call SS and demand to speak to someone who knows what their doing and make an appointment. If it wasnt for the fact that the SS office near me, was the only one near me, I'd just go to another office. Hopefully I can get those tax forms asap as well.

Well I just got off the phone with SS. Gawd they make you wait forever. Anyways, the woman spoke to her supervisor and I can't get a SSN until I have the EAD. I asked about my son, whos on a K-2 cause I want to get him into school for the end of July(they start earlier in the year here) and hell, he can't even get one until her gets an EAD, which she even thinks is dumb, cause hes only 4. She said once I get the EAD I can get both SSN. So now I gotta wait forever for that and who knows if I'll even get it before I have to register him for school.

She is wrong, Mary, you can get the SSN. I did. Do print out the policy that was listed above and physically take it to them. When I went the first time, I was told that I couldn't get a SSN until I got my EAD. I took the copy of the policy back with me, showed it to the woman at the counter who took it back and discussed it with several of her colleagues. She then came back and accepted my application. My card arrived about a week later - so keep persevering - you can get your SSN. Take your marriage certificate to show if there is any name change and your passport with your I-94 and I think, your birth certificate. You will need your SSN in order to get a Georgia State Identification or Driver's License.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
