Hello, everyone!

I am a long time reader, first time poster here. Up to this point I found all the infor I needed in FAQs and forums, but it looks like we are in a bad position now. My fiancee was denied visa on her K1 interview in Almaty. The officer decided that she wants to marry for a GC. I am not sure what to do next, will appreciate any advice.

You can start with posting the exact wording on "denial" document given to your fiancee. Some people are not given visa because of security checks, others were asked for addtl documentation which is not the same as final denial.

There are others who has more knowledge on this issue on this but only will able to give informed opinion if more info is available.

Sorry to hear of your denial. What type of denial did she get and if you could give more information someone may be able to guide you with some advice. Take care.

Thanks to everyone for responces, and special thanks for the warm words.

I don't know all the details yet- we only talked once, and it was very emotional, as you might imagine. I suspect that the way we met is a little different, and it got the consulate suspicious. We were introduced to each other by a mutual friend, who told me that she knew a nice girl, who was going to come to US on a tourist visa soon. So we communicated by phone and e-mail for few months. We were together in US until her visa expired, so she went home, and I started working on the K1. I guess that to the officer it looked like she came to States to hunt for a GC. One moment that played against us was that my fiancee didn't know the exact date of my previous divorse. It happened while she was with me, and she knew the court date. But the certificate itself was issued about two weeks later, which made it next month, and she never noticed it. So she named a wrong month.

I think that we had enough supporting documents- several photogrphs together and with my family, about 20 pages of e-mail printouts, credit card statement, which shows purchase of plane tickets with our names for a Florida trip we went to.

This is all I know for now.

I found out that on the denial form the officer marked "other" checkbox for the reason for denial and wrote no comments.

first of all, all is not lost..it is not a denial but a motion to return to the usa for possible review of the application...i went through this with sanita..she got 221g for not knowing enough about my past...i emailed them why (cultural/religious) and contacted the director, jeffrey by phone..need to call them and e-mail the consulate allot...also, tell them you come there and meet with them...

almaty can be reasoned with..i be through this and be glad to offer my assistance..pm me./.deam

almaty2004, thanks for the reply, your experience seems to be close to mine, except that 221g wasn't a denial code in my case, but it was "other", implications of which I don't know. Looking at your timeline, it looks like consulate changed their decision in just one week. Didn't they sent the documents back to US? Did you writeto their general address ConsularAlmaty@state.gov or you contacted someone specific?

Sorry you are having these problems.

The way you met is not very unusual. I don't think that is the problem.

It does not seem fair for them to write " other " with no comments. It makes it difficult to answer their opinion.

I still don't understand exactly what has happened in your case but it looks like Almaty 2004 has some experience.

E mails are really cool and easy but it sounds like you really need to be on the telephone. I don't think that the CO should be allowed to use " other " without any comments.

Act quickly. It would be better to stop the application befoe it gets returned.
