I would like to know whether the cost of the medical test for AOS could be covered by my husband's insurance from his employer.

I am covered under his insurance plan.

I called up one of the panel doctors to know the same thing but that particular clinic does'nt take insurance.

So is it the normal practice or other doctors might accept?

Request some information on this.

Thanks

I have read on here that many doctors do not accept insurance. I recaall reading one post where the person found that the civil surgeon was in their insurance network, but would not accept the insurance for this medical exam.

I've been hearing quite a bit that the Civil Surgeons conveniently (for them) don't accept insurance...another money making scheme I suppose! You would probably want to call a number of the civil surgeons on the list to hopefully locate a civil surgeon who may/may not accept your insurance. We called over 30 of USCIS recommended CS's before we found one who was willing to complete the I-693A without conducting a full physical. Good luck!

They can charge the vaccinations to your insurance (if the doc is in your insurance to begin with, and if your insurance covers vaccinations because not all do), but the medical exam for immigrations reasons will not be covered by insurance.

We had the vaccinations done by our normal doctor (and insurance paid it) and then took the info to the civil surgeon, he recopied it onto the I-693A and charged $50 for the whole 3 minutes it took him to do it.

My husband looked for an in-network provider when he was going through the list of civil surgeons. When he went to the doctor he said the insurance would not cover "immigration related exams" he relented and paid the money out of pocket, but then went home and looked in his insurance book, and lo and behold, the insurance specifically said that they covered immigration related medical expenses (he works for a company that is offshore). Anyway, I don't blame the doctor for initially refusing to bill to insurance because its impossible to know every detail of every insurance plan out there, and he probably didn't want to get stiffed. However, when we brought him the insurance policy and asked them to reprocess the literature, they REFUSED to do so. Thats when my husband asked for a reciept and submitted it directly to the insurance company, they reimbursed him for everything but the vaccinations.
