This is a different scenario but it is something that has crossed my mind since going through the immigration process- When I was 11, 2 of my neighbors were killed in the Air India crash, the mother and the son. The father was going to leave a few days after them, he stayed behind because of work.

After the crash the father flew back to India and came back shortly after with a new wife. This was many years ago and it was Canada not the US, and to be honest I have no idea what Canadian Immigration is like- back then or now.

He does still live right next door to my parents and they have 3 children. In all those years I have only seen his second wife a few times. She doesn't seem to go out much. His first wife was very sweet- she was always walking around the street and she always wore beautiful brightly colored saris. The son Deepak was 9- he was going to India to go through a ritual to manhood ceremony. He was very quiet and shy- he would sit and watch us play outside, we would invite him to join in but he always declined and just watched us.

It still makes me sad- it was such a shock.
