I totally disagree. You have to practice what you preach or it is meaningless and you are a hypocrite.

That still doesn't invalidate the message of course, and indeed if people don't like that particular messenger they can always find another. But... given the discussion over man-made GW - picking holes and inconsistencies in AG's words vs. his behaviour seems to have become short-hand for rubbishing the entire cause. That seems a little dishonest IMO.

Its not as if the guy represents the whole gamut of environmentalism - AG has been on the scene for barely 5 minutes, next to the likes of Green Peace, for example.

If what AG preaches is half as imp as he says it is, he wouldn't be such a raging hypocrite. He's proven himself a hypocrite in this regard time and time and time again. So, imo, it totally does invalidate the supposed 'severity' of the msg.

New York's gonna drown! The sky is falling!

Fixating on the messenger to the exclusion of the message is a pity IMO... Other than that he is a highly visible character on the US political scene, noone forces anyone to listen to AG. Beyond that he's far from the only person out there saying that climate change is a real and urgent issue, and indeed far from the first and indeed the best. Its just convenient for people who want to make political arguments in lieu of a whole branch of science that is, IMO, rather misunderstood.

I ought to point out again that this hoo-ha about whether human-influenced climate change is 'real' only seems to be a significant debate within the United States. I don't think that this is any coincidence.

A van carrying luggage is a significant reduction from a motorcade.

The private plane thing, if true, is harder to justify (it was a rented plane). But as others have pointed out, Al Gore using a private plane does not disprove the phenomenon of global warming, nor is it a legitimate excuse to avoid a serious discussion of the issue.

I am surprised, as the scientific evidence seems to roll in daily (the latest being the dramatic drop in penguin populations in Antarctica on the news yesterday), some people still think it's a fabrication.

Look at exactly who is saying what, then FOLLOW THE MONEY. Where do their interests lie?

Who will benefit if global warming is true?

Who will lose money if global warming is true?

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!

What motorcade? Where was this mentioned?

AG took a train ... and had his baggage sent via alternate transportation. He did not use the same means of carriage for his bags (guess the train was too small ... as he needed a "Mercedes van to handle all the luggage")

He is a part of the problem ...

OSLO, Norway (AP) — Former Vice President Al Gore skipped the traditional airport motorcade and took public transportation when he arrived Friday in Oslo to accept the Nobel Peace Prize he shared for his campaign against global warming.

Thanks Dev ... missed that one

Still the point is ... AG ... at least make your attempt(s) to help reduce emissions look like a real thing. There was probably space for your (excessive) baggage on the train and the Mercedes van could have stayed parked.
