From what I have seen in some of the timelines and heard from several people...

Does the USCIS prioritize certain countries visas over others? Or are most delays due to the paperwork not being in order?

No, some countries take longer based on their consulates. The service centers process by received date only (minus some flubs). Some countries take longer than others because of marriage brokering issues, etc, but it's not a matter of prioritizing.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

In a modest town where honest people dwell

--July 22---------Sent I-129F packet

--July 27---------Petition received

--August 28------NOA1 issued

--August 31------Arrived in Terrace after lots of flight delays to spend Lindsay's birthday with her

--October 10-----Completed address change online

--January 25-----NOA2 received via USCIS Case Status Online

I have think they may give some countries closer scrutiny,, iraq, afghanistan, pakistan, etc

and that could make the case take longer..

USCIS operates on a first come first served basis. Things that slow the process is name-checks, there is no prediction to how long name checks can take.

Another factor is which center process the petition, there are only 2 that process family based petitions, California, and Vermont, California has more adjudicators, but Vermont has newer systems, so depending on case load one may be faster than the other.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

I beleive the one exception to the rule is Cuba, they get processed by the service centers early. I heard it has something to do with the consulate there, but I'm sorry I don't know the specifics of it. But I've seen many Cuba applications processed early for sure.

They are handled in a "kinda first-come, first served" manner. I think it's a combination of:

1) Some countries get closer scrutiny, like Seattle2Cebu said

2) Name-check time variations, like YuAndDan said

3) just plain luck!! (good or bad)

Not sure about the processing but there is no US Consulate in Cuba.

Thank you all for the answers, I very new to all this but thank God I found this site..LOL

:) Don't worry about Ukraine. They aren't too bad :) The consulate is pretty fast at appointing interviews and you get it in mail within 10 days after the interview :)

Removal of conditions...

You should look here for more information about your embassy. It says you get it the same day here though :) Maybe what I've heard from a friend of mine was a special case :)

Actually there is, i left Cuba in 1988 and remember going there for our interview. Don't know if that's changed though.
