...even though intitial Affidavit is Support from primary sponsor is approved by the NVC.

My husband was given a pink and blue slip.

My husband was told the interview was fine. But that we only need a joint sponsor because I was not employed for years 2005 and 2006. Even though I am currently employed in 2007 and over the poverty requirements.

This I don't understand.

Additionally, he was fingerprinted and told that the results would return in a month.

Now I am scrambling to get my mother's papers ready for joint sponsorship. There is only one concern with this issue, for years 2004 and 2005 my mother income was well over the poverty limits based on WAGES EARNED. But for year 2006 she switched to part time work since she earns social security benefits. I am concerned this will have a negative effect on our application.

Does anyone know if the NVC or Consulate consider all monies from various sources as "INCOME" or do they differentiate and disqualify based on the the source of the income?

Sorry to hear you need to get more info, but at least it is obtainable and soon you will be approved! Hope this reference helps:

F. Sponsor Use of Benefits . Question 4B of the September 26, 2000 version of the Form I-864 asks if the sponsor or any member of his or her household has used means-tested benefits during the past 3 years. Do not disqualify a sponsor based on a positive response to this question. The reason for this question is to ensure that the value of any such means-tested public benefits is not considered as income on the Affidavit of Support. Federal means-tested benefits currently include SSI (Supplemental Security income), TANF (Temporary As sistance for Needy Families), food stamps, Medicaid, and State Child Health Insurance Programs (SCHIP). State and local means-tested benefits vary by jurisdiction. Earned benefits such as Social Security retirement, Unemployment Compensation, and Workman’s Compensation may be included as income.

Dear Trailmix:

Thanks for providing this link. I read downloaded the info from the LINK.

Can you help me understand this:

SSI - Social Security Income is not to be considered income on an Affidavit of Support

But the last sentence states, "....Social Security Retirement maybe be included as income."

What is the difference?

Hi Nutty,

I did answer you PM, but I will put what I sent here too. I'm not sure exactly what SSI is equal to, however since your parent is receiving a retirement benefit it should be allowed as income
