Ohmygosh those trees are GORGEOUS!!! I am jealous.

Trailmix, I noticed the icicles haven't been in the stores for quite some time now. I think they're flammable. :o Try Chinatown. They probably have them.

 don't want them unless they have the full lead brand.

Yeah they probably are flammable, well they are up there now. I have a fire extinguisher.

Our Christmas tree in our new house. Anna decided she wanted to pose for the camera...she's such a camera ham. Anywho, it's still a bit chaotic at the moment, but at least the tree is up. That big gift in the back....Joel says that one is mine but I canNOT touch it. *hmph* It's making me nuts!

Brilliant Karen, what a nice tree and a lovely daughter you have :)

Need to know what is in that big gift when you find out (on Dec. 25th....)

I really love those stick trees in the hallway too, they are so pretty. Your tree is really nice and so is your Santa!

My only contribution to xmas decorations is the tree, I appreciate people who make the extra effort :)

Everyone has such nice trees! This is a lovely thread. Gene and I got our tree on Friday, and it was a wintry cold day here on Saturday, so we stayed inside, put up our tree, and stayed in our jammies! It was fun. The tradition of icicles came from me. Maybe this is a Canadian thing? The ornaments on our tree, for the most part are

very old...Gene's grandmother, and/or her sisters. We have a small village we put under the tree, and Gene's first train set that he got for his first Christmas.

Enjoy!

I love this thread!! I can't figure out how to get a pic off my computer into this reply though. Any help?

So anyway, I wondered where all the icicles/tinsel have gone over the years and found this on wikipedia...

Strands of tinsel may be hung in groups from longer branches to simulate icicles, though this trend has gradually fallen off since the late 1970s, due primarily to a cessation of the manufacture of metal tinsel because of environmental concerns. This was replaced with silvered saran based tinsel, which many have found to be unsatisfactory, leading to the demise of tinsel in tree decorating in the United States (it remains popular in many European countries).

I haven't seen it in stores in Wisconsin for a very long time. My dog used to eat it when I was a kid and then decorate the yard with it :P . I guess that's why I thought it was a safety issue.
