I loved aleese! when I first came down to the states they told me it wasn't approved yet! So now i'm on ortho tri cyclen lite, cost 16 bucks a month. My friend is from Suranam (sp?) and she took 12 packs of pills with her to the states...

It's definitely available in the US now. :)

Ok. I´ve been on the pill since I was 16, due to crazy period cycle and since I wanted to control flow and accuracy on the days I had it.

So before I get opinions to switch to another birth control method, I´m stating clearly my choice for the pill for other factors other than birth control.

In Brasil I take Yasmin, which is one of the most expensive we have here, but it´s also so much superior than the others. 47 reais for a month supply.

I just checked Wallgreens and they have Yasmin for 48 dollars, which compared to reais is twice as much as I pay now.

Question 1: Are pills really this expensive?

Question 2: Do I need a prescription to buy pills in US?

Yes

and

yes

hey i noticed that Yasmine has 3 mg in the chart...what does that mean? Does it mean it's the strongest out of the rest in the chart?

Not really...see, the different progestins have varying degrees of effect on the uterus, so with one type you might only need a very small amount to get the same effect as a larger amount of another type.

With estrogen, these days the most that's in a pill is 50mcg, whereas when they first came out it was more like 100.

In Brasil Yasmin is the one with the lowest dosages, for minor or NO side effect. I don't feel a thing while on it.

I love YASMIN, but as you said it's so expensive... :crying: .

I used to pay in my country $13 but here I'm paying $44, CRAZY!!!!!!, I'm going to send money to my mom so she can buy 10 boxes and send them to me. I went to the doctor and she gave me a presciption for 6 months, in Lima I just went to the store and bought the quantity I wanted (by the way, before I came to the States I bought pills for 9 months). I'm going to Lima for Christamas and I'm planning to buy pills for 1 year and a half.

I love the ring...LOVE THE RING and I'd pay whatever for it. :)

Ditto that  I've been on all kinds of pills, the patch ( ) and now the ring. I wouldn't use anything else. I got mine through planned parenthood for free because I was poor and had no health insurance. Even though we're more well off now, it's still about $30 a month from planned parenthood here in Minnesota.

If it is that much cheaper and you are totally happy with it, I would bring a year's supply - maybe even 2 years. The expiration date is several years ahead and it would save you a lot of money in the long term. Alternatively, do you have someone in Brasil that could send them to you in the mail? We get stuff sent from the UK all the time, that you can't get here, and there isn't a problem with that. So, if you don't get the chance to get home after a year, or two, someone could at least get them to you.

Our journey started in 2001 and it's still not over. It's been a rollercoaster ride all the way! Let me off - I wanna be sick!

I'm no longer on the birth control, but in Canada , i used to use Alesse21, and it also had no side effects, it was great.. I don't remember paying a dime for it though, i dont' know why... I dont know if they sell it here in the US..

I was on Alesse in Canada - my doc here prescribed a generic that's the same dosage as Alesse. Smooth sailing and 100% covered by insurance. :D

... Yeah, free birth control can you believe it!!!???

Sarah

Well yeah cos here its always free :D

I'm so glad I don't take it anymore tho - specially when I see how much it costs in the US - to me thats crazy - it should be free IMO then perhaps (stressing that word there) there might be less accidental pregnancies (barring the genuine 'accidents' that happen whatever you take) and a lot less terminations (se I got an argument in for all POVs, lol - maybe pro-lifers should provide free pills?*devil's advocate*)

If you have health insurance it will be much cheaper than 48...mine was 20 a month. I have recently changed to seasonal and i love it. I only have my period every 3 months. My dr was nice an dgave me a year worth of free samples. She understand how much money we spent on the immigration process and it very nice. But you do need a persription and you will be required to take a papsmear. I took one in Brazil and it is much less painful here.
