GOOD LUCK JULIE! You will do better dropping weight once you consume the rest of those sugary buns hehe :) When should we start the iron chef VJ? maybe we could do one every weekend or something so people will have time to try the recipe.

I am so over the buns - and I still got about 16 sitting in my kitchen. I could use them for bread and butter pudding...mhhh...maybe not LOL

Re the iron chef, I think we should post the recipe on Thursdays, so people have enough time to go shopping and prepare themselves for the cooking session. Then just cook it on the weekend and publish results beginning of the week. What do you think?

Are you on a diet btw? If so, what kind? And does it work?

I left the remaining few buns upstairs on Saturday night and when I woke up they were gone. They were ate for breakfast.

That's a great plan for the recipe thing. I think that the recipes for baking should be in weight either ounces or grams instead of cups if possible because if you have a baking scale it will be easier to convert for the people who don't use the cups and such like we do. OR I can post a conversion table.

I'm on a diet but I'm only 1lb from my goal weight. I really just need to maintain for the rest of the year. Basically I am eating 1600 calories a day. I have 5 meals a day that are 320 calories each. I feel like I'm eating all the time (I kinda am) but I never feel hungry. I can eat whatever I want but as soon as I get to that 320 calories I can't have anymore for that meal. Sometimes I'll get a 12" subway sub and have half at 11:30 for my lunch and then the other half at 2:30 for my "snack". Or for lunch I'll have a lean cuisine and some sort of fruit or something and then for my 2:30 snack I will eat a granola bar, fruit, maybe something like pretzels so I have something crunchy.

I always drink at least 2 liters of water a day and sometimes more. One meal a week I eat whatever I want without counting any calories. That way I have something to look forward to and I don't feel like I'm getting jipped throughout the week. Most of the time I get chinese food because it's my weakness

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

That sunds good (your diet), but calorie counting is not for me. So you lost your 35 pounds already? Congrats!! Ready for spring then, are you?

I do weight watchers combined with only "good carbs". It's easy for me to keep track of the points. Since I hardly ever eat meat, all I have to do is count my carb points (don't really do dairy products either, only soy). So it's easy and I don't need a scale to weigh things, because I know i.e. one piece of bread has two points or a serving of potatoes four. I will try to eat more fish and seafood, as I need the protein (because I also don't really do eggs...).

Also, I was terribly inspired by the flickr group Laptop Lunches. I prefer to have a light lunch and a heavier dinner, I just sleep better with some food in my stomach. I work in an office and usually go to the canteen for lunch. I am getting so tired of the food there, that I decided to make my own laptop lunches (yes, I bought a box LOL). There are lots of healthy food ideas in that group, so I will try to involve those.

As for the cook-off - shall we use recipes that none of us has cooked yet? Epicurious has good recipes, so does Yahoo.com.au - Lifestyle/ Food

Regarding the metric problem - yeah, cups is not on LOL - the rest can be converted easily :) Ahh, I wish I had an oven, I will have to miss out on all the oven recipes.

Good luck Julie

I started on the eggs, I was never an egg person, but only the whites. And I also started to eat meat daily, I used to eat only like 3-4 times a week. So to work I take either turkey breast, chicken breast, tuna, salmon, other lean fish, no red meat, that I eat on weekends only.

I can't wait the weather to be good enough so we can start grilling outside. I love that. Hopefully in another couple weeks.

As for the good carbs, they're pretty much only from potatoes, fruits and cereal. I rarely eat rice or bread or pasta.

So I have a question. What's the difference between broil, braise, grill and roast?

I was trying to figure out, and correct me if I'm wrong:

broil - same as grilling, pretty much contact with direct heat, like in one of those bbq grill.

Braise - cooking with moist. Like when you make a soup and put chicken in it?

Roast - Cooking dry - like anything in the oven.

So my question is, when I cook chicken breast on one of those anti-adherent pans like this one

554361.jpg,

without anything added, just like 1 second of cooking spray, salt, pepper, spices and the chicken breast, what kind of cooking is that? is that broiling?

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
