oh, and I also always get one of those non-stick frying pans, then I put 1 wrap, half the cheese, half the bacon, crushed red pepper and half the turkey. I put the turkey in a way that I can what's the word, turn the wrap where the turkey will be in contact to the pan without letting the cheese escape  does it make sense? then i fold and I eat while I'm doing the same with the second wrap.

the cheese completely melts, it's delicious.

bump!

come on you fatas$es, let's get back in shape.

Some interesting things I've been reading today:

That's my case, my height:

Your ideal body weight is 135 pounds, or 61.4 kilograms.

Your protein intake requirement is 27.6 grams to 49.1 grams.

If you are working endurance training, increase to 28.6 to 49.2 grams.

Daily Intake:

Carbs 40 to 60%

Fat 20 to 30%

Protein 10 to 15%

Carbs:

If you're not trying to lose weight, 300 grams are recommended.

If you are trying to diet, try for closer to 150 grams, depending on your height / weight

Well, coming from a background of some serious weight loss (at my highest I was 288 lbs) I know that that kind of diet in particular doesn't really work. If we eat a LOT more carbs than protein we actually gain weight or maintain. I'm working at a ladies gym now, 85 pounds lighter and still losing, and can tell you from my experience and watching all the ladies that I work with one on one, that having 40% protein, 30% carbs, and 30% good fats every time that you eat can produce a significant weight loss without feeling very hungry. Plus you can still eat all of the foods that you like, just eat them in the right balance.

Also, before anyone gets upset or offended by what I've posted, I believe that most food guides, or rules set out by the government that tell us what we SHOULD eat in a day are backwards. In my line of work I've spoken to several dieticians who would never recommend the food guide as it tells us to eat too many grain products and not enough protein. I hope that nobody sees me as a crazy dieter, cause I'm not, this is just what I've seen work, and work well for most people.

I find it really hard having 40% protein and 30% carbs. Even if I don't eat any bread or potato or pasta, I still can't eat more protein. And I have protein shakes, protein bars. I guess to eat more protein than carbs only if I took those protein shakes that are super high caloric.

no I eat meat daily. It's either chicken or red meat, tuna, salmon. I eat cheese, yogurt, milk, eggs ocasionally.

I've been doing this calorie-counter thing since january and i just took a look, none of the days I had even half percent the amount of protein compared to the amount of carbs. And I buy everything low carb i can, I rarely eat pasta or rice or bread.

Can you post here a 1 day meal plan that's 40% protein, 30% carbs, and 30% good fats? Cuz, not to be mean, but I'm having a hard time trying to picture a diet like that. A one time thing maybe, but not a daily thing.

Well Nessa, here's an example of what I eat in a day:

Breakfast: 5 egg whites, one egg scrambled together, an apple and two teaspoons of peanut butter.

Lunch: A can of tuna on top of a large salad with whatever veggies that I want, light or low fat salad dressing, and a fruit, usually an apple or a nectarine

Dinner: Chicken breast, stir fried veggies, with a little bit of sesame oil, and half a cup of brown rice.

Snacks: Protein shake or bar, or a little bit of lunch meat with some veggies and a little bit of dressing.

So I always get at least 6 oz of protein and a carb. I choose fruit for my carbohydrates just because if I eat a lot of grain products, even though they're whole grain, I don't feel very well and I don't lose weight, I either maintain or gain a pound. But if you want to you could do a whole wheat pita, or wrap, WASA crackers, sweet potato, 1/2 cup of whole wheat pasta, or rice, or one slice of whole grain bread.

For me it's doable, and the ladies that I work with feel the same way. Because you're getting more protein you feel less hungry and you're burning calories even when you're not in the gym. The key is that you don't cut out carbs completely but just balance them with your proteins and fats. PM me if you want more meal ideas, I can email you my whole meal plan if you like.

That's so much counting, geez xD I just try to eat my veggies and count the calories, and now I've learned to eat a bit of protein with each meal (yay mixed nuts mmmm love, and eggs yay eggs).

Well...I'm a bit mad, as my diet/exercising/actually being healthy I think is about to take a serious beating :( I just got off of spring break during which my family wouldn't stop COOKING, every single day, big hunks of red meat and desserts, EVERY day. How do you stay on with that :( Too rude to not eat like a normal southerner. Omg had fried squash though for first time in ages and cornbread too I'm so not complaining.

But I've got my bachelor's essay I've been trying to write on top of other classes and work, and it's just not...working. Jogging/gyming for about an hour every day or most days somehow always takes up tons of time - between going to gym and back, changing, all the stretches, then shower, then eating. And then just energy is gone, argh...I need the time to be writing and will have to stop sleeping soon too -_- So argh the next two months I'm gonna turn into a pimply slothy slug.

Hopefully see all you guys on the other side :(

These days, I can't lose weight without significantly cutting down on carbs. But it comes with its costs.

In 2003, I lost 20 pounds over five months by exercising five days a week for two hours each time and eating 18-24 weight watchers points each day. It was probably my healthiest weight loss ever (and the best I looked at that weight), but it took a really long time, and I still wanted to lose 10 more pounds but couldn't get them off. I still kept the weight off for three years, before going through a major weight gain when I moved in with Rey.

But when I've wanted to lose weight, I've started turning to lower-carb options. I eat all protein shakes, or protein shakes plus chicken-and-broccoli dinners, or sometimes sort of other South-Beachy foods. This method lost me 20 pounds in five weeks and 40-45 pounds in three months.

Since Christmas, I've put back on 10 pounds. And though I'm going to start the diet up again, I'm stuck on a yo-yo. Something about those high protein diets just make maintaining loss much, much harder. The instant results are gratifying, but buyer beware.

Ok, I tried to analyze that recipe:

Breakfast:

5 egg whites

1 egg

1 apple

2 teaspoons peanut butter

Lunch:

1 can tuna

salad

2 tbsp Kraft Fat Free Italian Dressing

1 nectarine

Dinner:

4 oz Chicken breast

1 tbsp sesame oil

1/2 cup brown rice

1 serving stir fry vegetables

Snack:

1 serving South Beach Diet High Protein Cereal Bar

Total Calories: 1575

Total Fat - 28.9% (51 grams)

Total Protein - 32.9% (130 grams)

Total Carbohydrates - 37.1% (146 grams)

Other - 1.1%

Daily Sodium Intake - 1,127 mg

Daily Sugar Intake - 37 grams

Daily Cholesterol Intake - 339 mg (113%) just wow, that can't be good

Daily Saturated Fat Intake - 11 grams

Daily Fiber Intake - 15 grams

See what I mean, I have a really hard time believing you can eat 40% protein, 30% carbs, and 30% good fats on a daily basis. I could never eat 6 eggs a day. And where do you put your peanut butter when you have breakfast? On your eggs? Or you eat with a spoon?

Nessa, I'm not sure where you got all of that cholesterol from. There's only cholesterol in the one whole egg, not to mention calories. Egg whites are 17 calories a white and only protein. So it's not really like eating 6 whole eggs. It can obviously be modified, but as a larger woman, that's what I eat. I also eat 6 oz of chicken and it does depend on your protein bar. Even if that were what you ate, for maintaining it's a 40% carb, 30% protein, 30% fat diet.

Oh, and I put the peanut butter in my apple! :P I like it that way!

Hey Alex, I definitely know what you mean about high protein diets. Ive learned not to cut carbs out completely. That just makes it much worse. I can't stay on track that way. That's why I make sure to get some sort of carb everytime I eat, whether or not it's a fruit or a grain.

Anyhow, this is just what I know works for me and the ladies I work with. You certainly don't have to follow it, but it's a suggestion.

I find that having a diet skewed away from processed carbs and a little heavier on proteins and vegetables helps me feel fuller. And then I tend not to get cravings or splurge on junk food. More carbs like pasta & bread means my blood sugar is all over the place. I've only dropped five pounds since January, but I've also increased my bench press & my squat so I feel like I'm moving in the right direction.

I've found this site to be helpful. There's more at the link, but it gives you ideas for healthy meals.

The colestherol is probably from the PB, oils and the egg.

I've been slacking. One benefit of working here at the Gym is that it kinda forces/motivates me to work out. I'm trying to go back to eating more fruits. I need to start eating more vegetables also.

I'm still losing weight but I think I'm almost done. I wanted to get to 165 and I'm almost there. After than I will maintain. My goal was to keep the weight off for the whole year. So far I'm doing pretty good!

How exactly do you maintain? :(

I'm all worried because I'm really not going to exercise much at all in the next couple months, too much work to do, and lots of sitting around doing boring work so my snacking might go bad too :(

So...I don't know how long since I changed my diet and started exercising and stuff, about a year and a half ago I think, but I've been more regimental about it - jogging off about 500-600 calories about four times a week, plus about 1200-1400 cal. diet pretty steady (never get takeout or anything really) - for about 6 months probably.

I think since a couple years ago I've dropped about 25-30 pounds, but in the past 6 months probably only about 10. I'm kind of doing it all to just be more healthy but it seems weird that I haven't lost more. I'm smaller of course and have probably gained a good bit of muscle, but in the past 2 years I've also "only" dropped 2 pants sizes.

So if I exercised and ate like that, and now I'm just flatlining all the exercise to sit around like a sloth for the next couple months, what's gonna happen? So far this week I'm still at 1200 cal. diet but still...Really don't wanna gain and go all sluggy because of stupid schoolwork :(

Watch I'll somehow lose weight being sedentary when I wasn't losing doing all that running :D

Oh yeh I tried somebody's suggested okra-tomato-corn-rice throw together for lunch thing today! Yummy! :o
