scales are evil!!! i totally give up. I ate less than 500 cal and went to the gym. I burned at least 400 cal at the gym and so far I'm sure I've burned at least 3x what i've eaten . anyway, I weigh myself after coming home and i was like 3 lbs heavier than this morning.

crazy!! so i'm gonna go now have beer and pizza!

And I'll start weighing myself once a week. And that's it! And I'll lose it til april. I know I will.

You gotta make sure you get at LEAST 1200 calories a day, and most people seems like go for 1500 or so when they're gyming it, or your body shuts down and metabolism halts and you start eating away at your muscle and all sorts of horrible things happen :o I hope you mean you only ate 500 calories in like...a meal.

I've done pretty good lately really, I am on a diet though I won't admit it I guess, I call it a 'lifestyle change' :P Now I'm all snubby and can feel when I eat too much sugar and feel like I have to make sure I balance the food pyramid and get all my veggies and all this stuff. Biggest problem I've had honestly is cutting out cereal because I just used to eat tons of it, it's so good...

Favorite low-cal, filling longlasting foods at the moment (Because so many people want to know what I'm eating!):

reduced sugar quaker oatmeal, mmm

eggs

grits

popcorn

double-fiber wheat bread

sandwich turkey, canned tuna, and Lloyd's brand BBQ stuff (expensive but look at the nutritional panel, amazing :o) (sandwiches are your friend)

Progresso soups  beef barley, mmm

frozen bagged veggies

lots of fruit

Jello 60 cal pudding snacks and Dannon lite yogurt :)

I splurged yesterday and bought angel food cake and strawberries and cool whip :D Angel food cake, not bad at all

That really is like...basically what I live off of now, plus chicken and occasionally rice. If you're on a diet and hungry it doesn't work to make yourself hold out til dinner time because if you're like me you'll just end up dropping like 3000 calories on the biggest casserole dish size load of nachos the world has ever seen or something :D But think about it if you can have your turkey sandwich AND a cup of veggies for 200 calories or less, jeez you could eat six of these meals a day, hard to see getting hungry off of that.

But man, ice cream. CRY for some ice cream, never get sick of it :(

By the way I have a question.

So if you read around on all this annoying diet ####### (grrrr :() you see lots about like...how many calories to get, the sort of things to eat, what exercises to do, what burns what, etc etc. You know something I've never seen? How many fat grams you should get a day. I've read a few times to make sure you get 1200 calories, okay sure. But never seen a safety net for fat grams.

My fiance's mum thinks fat and oils are important for brain health or something so she cooks with lots of oils and things even though she's always on a diet, and she's pretty small. I wonder if different levels of fat gram intake effect your ability to burn calories too, and how well your metabolism is running.

Does anybody know? I know the daily recommended allotment is I think like 70 or 80 grams of fat, but I don't know what the minimum you should get is. If I ate the daily allotment the FDA recommends I'd need a wheelbarrow for myself :(

Good fat is necessary, you should avoid the bad fat, though.

The Good Fats

Monounsaturated Fats :

Monounsaturated fats (MUFAs) lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) while increasing HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol). Nuts including peanuts, walnuts, almonds and pistachios, avocado, canola and olive oil are high in MUFAs. MUFAs have also been found to help in weight loss, particularly body fat. Click here for more weight loss nutrition tips.

Polyunsaturated Fats:

Polyunsaturated fats also lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. Seafood like salmon and fish oil, as well as corn, soy, safflower and sunflower oils are high in polyunsaturated fats. Omega 3 fatty acids belong to this group.

The Bad Fats

Saturated Fats:

Saturated fats raise total blood cholesterol as well as LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol). Saturated fats are mainly found in animal products such as meat, dairy, eggs and seafood. Some plant foods are also high in saturated fats such as coconut oil, palm oil and palm kernel oil.

Trans Fats

Trans fats are invented as scientists began to "hydrogenate" liquid oils so that they can withstand better in food production process and provide a better shelf life. As a result of hydrogenation, trans fatty acids are formed. Trans fatty acids are found in many commercially packaged foods, commercially fried food such as French Fries from some fast food chains, other packaged snacks such as microwaved popcorn as well as in vegetable shortening and hard stick margarine.

weigh yourself only in the morning. that 3 pounds was probably from water intake.

if you're trying to lose weight I think that you're supposed to try and stick to 35g of fat a day.

also, nessa I think 1 gallon of water = 3lbs if you have the body composition scale you should be able to see how much water in litres you have in your body. keep note of the amount of water and that could explain your weight differences

I'm eating a lean cuisine french bread pizza. I had a pizza craving and it's actually not hat bad. The pepperoni is a bit spicy though? I didn't expect that! Alex I bought some skinny cow ice cream sandwich things and they're so good. Only 140 calories and almost fat free. I think 1g of fat. They're pretty big too. How is the dieting going for everyone?
