i talked to my husband today and told him eid was dec 19th insted of the 20th. he informed me he was the one who would slaughter the lamb this year to have god forgive him and me for our sins. i was like...please dont tell me that. being a animal lover i could never hurt one ever. if he does it i sure dont want details or pictures.

i know its even biblical that people sacrificed their best animal to God to be given forgivness for sin but i just dont want to know it.

I'm glad my husband doesn't feel the need to have a sheep on our porch. I don't think the cat would appreciate that.

Does anyone know how much a sheep costs? My husband wants to send $300 to his family for it. Doesn't that seem like a lot? But apparently the dollar is only 7 dirhams these days, that can't help.

No I don't think that's a lot for the sheep. My husband is sending that much home too (but we send that every month so I guess it's maybe different??) I went with to buy the sheep 2 years ago and it was like 2000-2500 dH. These are big huge rams LOL!!

i'll ask abdou when he gets home about the price of the sheep in casa. i was there last year for eid and witnessed the slaughter of 3 sheep. abdou's family thought it was a better idea to buy two baby sheep instead. i'm not sure what we'll do for eid...i think sending money home to pay for a sheep in morocco is a great idea!!! thanks ladies! :D abdou's family said eid is on the 21st in morocco.

Hmm... wonder if I should just ask my SO to include me in the lambs for his family? I know small families often share. Oh well, I could always share with someone from the mosque too. That way I don't have to watch the poor animal die

Awe hugs to us all. (F)

..last year, the Eid was on december 30th....my husband and i got married on the second day of eid...so this eid is going to be DEpressinggggggggggg... :crying:

alhamdulillah, i'll be taking a final that day...i'll try to keep myself as busy as possible at college to avoid all thoughts of eid....man, it sucks that we got married on 2 holidays....eid AND new years...haha....oh boy...december is a really tough month..

anyway...sorry...seems that everytime i post, i'm complaining...

Eid Mubarak everyone!! :)

Hey we got married on the 28th of Dec. last year in Egypt. I wanted it to be New Years Eve but the two holidays and a wedding conflicted. So you were there too huh? Kewl!

I'm in finals right now this week. I know what you mean about staying busy with school. Although this is me procrasting my written finals right now. lol

Eid Mubarak as well!

Looks like the three of us are in the same boat. I won't blame either one of you for whining if you do the same for me. ;) This is going to be a very difficult Christmas/Eid/Wedding Anniversary/New Years

On the flip side though........if we can get through this I believe we can get through anything!!! I was talking to my husband last night and I told him that even though God only gives us what we can handle I think perhaps he has his sights a wee bit too high for me at the moment.

And one more!

yes i feel the pain of everyone here...sora and everyone else...:( it is a really depressing yet still happy time of year... I as well got married last year on December 21st, 2006...and the last time I was in Egypt we celebrated our wedding, 3eid, New year's...and it truly was an amazing time of year :) sadly, we will be apart for our first anniversary but you know I always tell myself that Allah does everything for a reason...as we say in Arabic..."kul ta2kheera we feeha kheera" which means every late occurrence has good reasons behind it ;) so just keep the hopes up and hey maybe our loved ones will be with us for Valentine's Day :D LOOOOOOL inshAllah :) take care everyone and 3eid mubarak to all!!! :) at least we can celebrate together on VJ!!!!! :dancing: who is bringing the lamb and kofta and baklava and mahshy...and basbosa...goodness i miss Egypt :(

Good luck on your finals!

This will be my husband's first eid away from his family and as a surprise i thought i would do something special for him like order a piece of lamb and make it for him. But i said something about it when we were reading this forum and he said no. But haha i'm going to do it anyway he just won't know when. I too second guessed him about $300 for a sheep. To me it seems alot of money, but its for his family. If anybody has any reciepes for lamb let me know. Thanks

We usually do lamb kabobs - cut the meat into pieces like the size of beef stew meat, then the mixture we use is garlic, salt and pepper, italian parsley, and cumin, with some olive oil. Marinade the meat for a good couple of hours, but it on the skewers and grill. That's it!! :) I have other recipes for lamb too but this is usually what we do for Eid.

...last year, i was with my husband...it was the day before the wedding...so he was my fiance i guess...haha....anyway, the whole family got together for a barbeque...

:crying:

::There’s a laugh in my eyes::

There’s a waltz in my walk

And it’s been such a long time

Since there was hope in my talk

If you never knew

What it is that’s new.. it’s you

‘Cause when your hands are in mine

You set a fire that everyone can see

And it’s burning away

Every bad memory

To tell you the truth

If it’s something new.. baby it’s you

It’s you in the morning

It’s you in the night

A beautiful angel came down

To light up my life

The world’s a different place

Where nothing’s too hard to say

And nothing’s too hard to do

Never too much to go through

To tell you the truth

Everything that’s new.. baby it’s you

It’s you in the morning

It’s you in the night

A beautiful angel came down

To light up my life

My life, my life

Ohh

So if I get to grow old (oh if I get to grow old)

With many years behind me (many years behind me)

There’s only one thing I want (aahh)

One thing I need beside me

For all that you are

For everything you do

For all that you’ve done

Just for showing me the truth

::It’s you...It’s you...Baby it’s you::

It'll be like that again someday. I know it's hard, but you'll get through this.

I think lamb kabobs is a great idea. Who has a recipe? (Jen? Sarah?)
