Approx Waiting Time for Interview After Consulate Recieves NVC Package: The embassy makes appointments for interviews by phone, as long as you tell them your documents are ready, and you tell them you already have a doctor's appointment. You can get an interview within around a week of calling for the appointment. [Edit Sept. 17, 2012: since Sept. 10, there have been no appointments available sooner than 56 days. This may be temporary, but the earliest available appointments are currently Nov. 8 or later.] {Edit May 31st 2013. When we scheduled our K-1 interview, it was showing appointments less than a week out. I checked again today and there is one available in six days, so it appears they have sped things up.} You can also schedule an interview online at kenya.usvisa-info.com. You can only schedule an interview AFTER you have paid the MRV fee.
Issues Packet 3?
Packet 3 Contains: Nairobi embassy no longer sends packet 3 by mail. They have made it available online:

http://nairobi.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas/visa-packets.html

It contains visa instructions, DS-230, DS-156, DS-156K, medical contacts, photo requirements, and form I-134.
Issues Packet 4? No
Packet 4 Contents (if known):
Forms to Consulate? Bring all the forms with you to the interview.

* A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date at least six months beyond the applicant's intended period of stay in the United States (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions). Make sure your fiance does not simply renew his/her passport. A NEW passport is needed. This isn't entirely draconian on the embassy's part. Renewed Kenyan passports are done in such a way that would raise red flags in most developed countries' ports of entry. Make sure that ALL forms have an official English translation if they are in another language.
* Birth certificate
* Divorce or death certificate of any previous spouse for both the applicant and the petitioner
* Police certificate from all places lived since age 16
* Medical examination forms
* Evidence of financial support (Form I-134- Affadavit of Support)
* Two Nonimmigrant Visa Applications, Form DS-156 (A Form DS-156, prepared in duplicate.)
* One Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application, Form DS-156K
* Two nonimmigrant visa photos (each two inches 50 X 50 mm square, showing full face, against a light background)
* Evidence of a fiancé relationship
You will be required to go to a bank and pay for visa; bring the proof with you. The embassy does give explicit instructions for this.

Note: Make sure that all documents are ORIGINALS. The letter sent out by embassy specifies certified copies, a term that confuses many people.

Other Forms (if any)? You may also need another form if your fiance is male and between 21 and 35, stating any military or weapons experience. That will be listed in your letter.
Direct Consular Filing Offered? No
If DCF Allowed: For all or only US citizen lawfully resident in country?
Can fiance(e)/spouse attend interview? No
Visa fee payment "same day" or "in advance"? Advance
Did embassy schedule interview or could you walk-in? Embassy Scheduled
Visa issued same day? No
If not what's the waiting period? 3-5 business days. If your fiance is Muslim and male, the security check can take much longer. Be prepared, so you won't be disappointed, and don't buy the plane ticket quite yet.
Is the Medical exam same day as interview? Prior to Interview
Cost of Medical Exam? The exam is around $105 but the cost for vaccinations depends on how many he/she needs. $245 is the estimated cost for all, but most pay around $100-$150. It's recommended that you get as many vaccinations before-hand since the Nairobi doctors can be expensive. Also, a chest x-ray is required.
List of doctors? NAIROBI

NO OTHER MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS ARE ACCEPTABLE TO THE U.S. EMBASSY IN NAIROBI

The correct medical examination forms (DS-2053) are available from the U.S. Embassy. The doctor will require two photographs and the Embassy will require three more photographs. Applicants will therefore require a total of five photographs. Completion of the medical and all related tests require at least one week. Be sure to schedule your medical appointment well in advance of your visa interview date.

In order to assist the panel physican, and to avoid delays in the processing of an immigrant visa, all immigrant visa applicants should have their vaccination records available for the panel physician's review at the time of the immigrant medical examination. Visa applicants should consult with their regular health care provider to obtain a copy of their immunization record, if one is available. If you do not have a vaccination record, the panel physician will work with you to determine which vaccinations you may need to meet the requirement. Certain waivers of the vaccination requirement are available upon the recommendation of the panel physician.
Cheap and good hotels near the Consulate? The hotels in central Nairobi are only $5 - $10 per day.

The Downtown Hotel is near a Nakumatt and it's very clean if backpacker basic, and costs about $20 for a double.

There are very nice guesthouses in Gigiri within a few blocks of the embassy and the upscale Village Market Shopping Center. Gigiri Homestead (info available online) and Holmely House.
Additional Info? Appointment time for all interviews is between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday through Thursday, excluding Kenyan or American Holidays and the last Wednesday of the month.
