VISA INSTRUCTIONS FOR FIANCEE NON-lMMIGRANT VISA APPLICANTS
This office has received a petition entitling you to the K-1/K2 nonimmigrant visa classification as an alien proceeding to the United States to marry an U.S citizen. To prepare for your interview appointment with a consular officer, please read and follow carefully the instructions below.
FIRST: Fill out in DUPLICATE, on the website http://evisaforms.state.gov the form DS-156, Nonimmigrant Visa Application, together with a single copy of the attached Forms DS-1 56(K), Nonimmigrant Fiancée Visa Application and form DS-157. All questions on Form DS-156K must be answered, but do NOT Sign it. If your children will apply with you, two copies of form DS-156 for each child must be completed in full.
SECOND: Obtain the following documents on this check list which pertain to you. Do NOT send them to this office.
Passport: A passport must be valid for travel to the United States and must have at least six months validity beyond the issuance date of the visa. Children may be included in a parent's passport, but if over the age of 16, they must have their own passport.
Birth Certificate: Original birth certificate of each person named in the application is required. Birth records must be presented for unmarried children under age 21, even if they are not applying for a visa at this time.
Unobtainable birth certificates: If an official birth certificate is not obtainable, present the best possible secondary evidence, such as a baptismal certificate, hospital certificate, school records, and/or a notarized affidavit from your parents.
Police Certificates: Each applicant age 16 or over is required to submit a police certificate from the police authorities of each locality where the applicant has resided for six months or more since attaining the age of sixteen. A police certificate must also be obtained from the police authorities of any place where the applicant has been arrested for any reason, regardless of the length of residence. Police certificates from certain countries are considered unobtainable. The consular office will advise you about any particular country.
Court and Prison Records: Persons convicted of a crime must obtain a certified copy of each court record and any prison record, regardless that they may have benefited from an amnesty or pardon.
Military Records: A certified copy of any military record is required.
Photographs: Two (2) color photographs are required. The photographs must be 2”x 2” (5cmx5cm) on glossy paper, unretouched and unmounted, with white background. No head covering or dark glasses should be worn.
Certificate of No Marriage: A single person has to obtain an Original certificate of non marriage.
Termination of Prior Marriage: Applicant and petitioner who have been previously married must obtain evidence of the termination of EACH prior marriage. Evidence must be in the form of original documents issued by a competent authority, or certified copies bearing the appropriate seal or stamp of the issuing authority as a final divorce decree, annulment or death certificate.
Evidence of Support: Evidence of financial support comes from the petitioner, evidence, which will show that you and your children, if any, are not likely to become public charges in the United States. If an affidavit of support is to be submitted, Form 1-134 should be used provides his/her last years of income tax returns (Forms W-2 and 1040)or you can easily obtain transcripts from the IRS 800-829-1040 free for up to 10 yrs.A letter from employer with official letterhead,stating how long you have been employed, annual income,position and if work is permanent or temporary.
Medical Examination: Arrange for a medical examination with the physician listed on the attached information sheet. You are responsible for the cost of the examination. A medical examination is also required for each child who will accompany you.
-For applicants 15 years of age and over, including a chest radiograph, the fee will not exceed 2500AD/ $25 USD take extra $ anyways.
-The fee for applicants under 15 years of age will not exceed 1800 AD/ $18 USD
You will also be required to take 2 passport style photographs to the medical exam.
Evidence of Relationship: You may be asked to submit proof of a valid fiancé/fiancée relationship with your petitioner. It is useful to bring with you letters, photographs, or other evidence of your engagement.
Translation: All documents not in English, must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
Visa Fee: The application for nonimmigrant visa is $240 USD
Each applicant must be prepared to pay this fee on the appointment date.
ONLY ONE COPY OF EACH DOCUMENT, EXCEPT PHOTOGRAPHS, IS REQUIRED. HOWEVER, YOU ARE ADVISED TO OBTAIN AND KEEP A DUPLICATE COPY OF EACH DOCUMENT FOR YOUR RECORDS.
THIRD: As soon as you have obtained all of the documents that apply in your case, call or send an e-mail to consular section for appointment. you will be scheduled for a visa interview at the earliest possible date. You should bring all of the above pertinent documents and the application forms with you to the interview.

INSTRUCTIONS EXAMEN MEDICAL POUR VISA D’IMMIGRATION
Les lois d’Immigration des Etats-Unis exigent que toute personne faisant une demande de visa d’immigration passe une visite médicale, afin que son éligibilité à recevoir un tel visa puisse être déterminé. En conséquence, avant de se présenter à l’Ambassade pour l’entrevue finale, les intéressés doivent prendre eux-mêmes toutes dispositions pour passer une visite médicale, celle-ci étant à leurs frais.
Afin que l’examen soit fait d’une manière correcte et uniforme, l’Ambassade a désigné et approuvé les médecins dont les noms suivent jusqu'à le 31 mars 2011:

L’Ambassade n’acceptera pas de certificats médicaux complétés par des praticiens autres que ceux indiqués ci-dessus. Les immigrants devront donc choisir l’un de ces médecins et prendre toutes dispositions avec lui pour passer la visite médicale prescrite.
Les 4 formulaires de la visite médicale : Form DS-2053, (Medical Examination for Immigrant or Refugee Applicant), Form DS-3024, (Chest X-ray and Classification Worksheet), Form DS-3025, (Vaccination Documentation Worksheet), Form DS-3026, (Medical History and Physical Examination Worksheet) sont disponible chez les médecins désignés

L’immigrant devra également présenter son passeport pour identification et 2 photographies d’identité. A la fin de la visite médicale, le praticien placera les formulaires complétés dans l’enveloppe qu’il cachettera, et remettra à l’immigrant, que ce dernier devra présenter à l’Ambassade lorsqu’il viendra au jour et à l’heure qui lui auront été indiqués. L’Ambassade refusera d’accepter les conclusions d’un examen médical si le certificat est complété et signé par un autre médecin que l’un de ceux désignés ci-dessus, ou si l’enveloppe a été ouverte avant d’être présentée à cette Ambassade. L’examen médical comprendra l’étude de la radiographie des poumons et l’analyse sérologique du sang. Le film de la radiographie dans son enveloppe et l’analyse devant être remis à l’Ambassade en même temps que l’enveloppe cachetée contenant les certificats médicaux complétés.
NOTE: La radiographie des poumons n’est pas requise pour les enfants ayant 14 ans ou moins, l’analyse sérologique ne sera pas requise pour les enfants ayant 14 ans ou moins sauf si le médecin a des raisons de soupçonner que l’enfant soit atteint de tuberculose ou de syphilis.
Si vous avez 15 ans ou plus, un examen sanguin pour la recherche du Virus Immunodéficitaire Humain (VIH) est demandé dans le cadre de votre examen médical. Le VHI est le virus du sida. Le SIDA est le nom donné à un groupe de maladies que peuvent avoir des personnes infectées par le VIH. L’infection par le VIH occasionne l’affaiblissement des défenses naturelles d’un individu face à une maladie qui ne serait pas une menace si son système immunologique était intact. Ce test n’a pas pour but de diagnostiquer le SIDA, mais de détecter les anticorps. Si le résultat est positif, cela ne veut pas nécessairement dire que vous êtes atteint du SIDA ni même que vous le serez jamais.
Le résultat de votre test sera remis à un officier consulaire. Il sera peut-être aussi nécessaire d’en informer les autorités médicales de ce pays.
Un résultat positif indiquera que vous ne serez pas éligible à recevoir un visa. Un résultat positif pourra également avoir des conséquences dans votre vie de tous les jours dans ce pays.

There are vaccinations required and plan to spend the day if you want to get it done in one day and schedule appointment as early in the day as possible because you may and probably will have to go to several different medical facilities. The people working to do these medical exams work very hard and they are good , friendly people. |

Cheap and good hotels near the Consulate? |
I know there are 2 very expensive hotels near the embassy that are supposed to be a bit on the fancy side. One is the Dar Diaf and the other is known as the Saint George (former name)but is now called Hotel El Djazair.Here is the deal no one knows either because no one cares to share or they do not attend the interview with their fiance in most cases, or they simply don't know. It is not super easy to get a visa to Algeria, it is not super hard either, but it is time consuming. It took me two months to get a visa in order to attend the interview with H. Then there is the extremely long flight with at least three legs, mine was four legs. So surely you will be ready to rest and want to have a place to stay. If you get a room near the airport you will have no troubles with the law, however the airport is a good 22 miles from the embassy and traffic can be horrific. If you stay near the airport plan to leave for the interview early. We found that even in the off season all the hotels near the airport were booked. Here is where it gets tricky. In Algeria if you are not married or cannot show valid proof of marriage it is forbidden, against the law, to share a room. Therefore you must rent 2 rooms. The police do come and check. The other issue is you want to stay somewhere safe. Just like anywhere you don't want to be in the bad part of town. If you have money to waste or throw away the first 2 hotels will be OK for you as the ST. George is $300 per night x 2 = $600 per night x 8 = $4800 for 8 nights. The Dar Diaf is a little cheaper but not much, well you can say half @ $152 per room per night is about $2400 and some change. We stayed in a hotel in the center of Algiers about 15 minutes from the Embassy called the Regina. It is an old building but very clean, good service, balcony with sea view, restaurant and room service until 11PM and within walking distance to everything. The staff was excellent and they were very fluent in English, free breakfast and $39 a night x 2=$78 per night x 8= $624. We had side by side rooms and it was very comfortable and clean. Also generous with linens and towels. No service at all in the hotel on Friday's but you can go out and eat and shop in some places. Also it is forbidden to bring food in from the outside, but of course there are ways around some forbidden things ;)

you can legally change your money $ for dinar in equal amounts, if you exchange your USD in a bank or financial institution you will lose about $30 per $100. There are people on the streets waving money to exchange in equal amounts and it is very legal as you will see police are everywhere. They were very friendly too.
Also the employees at the US Embassy were very friendly, I had no problem attending the interview with H even though they were not expecting me.I did have to show them my passport and for some reason I did not have my ID with me but I did have my birth certificate and they accepted that. I think if it is feasible and one can afford the time to go it is well worth the cultural experience but it also lessens your burden of proof. The CO was an extremely articulate and down to earth American kind of guy, very friendly and approachable. Other than being separated at all times by what I am sure is bullet proof glass it was like having a normal conversation with someone about your own personal situation. Questions were random and based on our particular case. overall it was a smooth and successful experience. Honesty is absolutely what will get you where you want to be. |
