I attended my wife's interview at the embassy in Prague. Totally painless. Couple questions about our papers and I think one about how we met. Apparently he thought it was romantic that we met in a train station in the Czech Republic (there are only two) and asked which one. His staff had a bet going on which one it was. It was all good and I wont say fun but close.

I attended my fiance's (now husband) in Buenos Aires. I think it just helps to give validation to the relationship if your USC fiance flies around the world to be with you at the interview. It was good that I was there, as I don't think she would have approved the visa. Initially, she had some questions for me and then she spoke directly with him for a while.

Our interviewer was a real pill, too. At one point, she said that she would deny his visa application because I didn't have copies of my 2002 - 2003 tax returns. I said that they weren't required in the application, which she proceeded to tell me that consulars retain the right to ask for anything they deem necessary. She basically said that there was no way to circumvent this and that I would be leaving Argentina before she could process Gustavo's visa, as they were closed on Friday - I was leaving Sunday, and it was Thursday. Fortunately, I had done all of my tax filing on Turbo Tax and was able to go to an internet cafe and print them off for her.

When we went back to the embassy later on that day, she was shocked to see us, but moreover, it shocked the heck out of her that I my tax returns in hand. She finally said that she would approve his visa, but she wanted to talk with me in private first. She asked if I knew what I was doing? I was so disgusted by this time, but I finally told her - Are you Catholic? She said what did that have to do with anything? I said, are you? She said yes. I said have you ever been engaged to be married in the Catholic Church? She said no. I said, well when you finally go before your priest to tell him that you want to be married in the Church, prepare for the Spanish Inquisition. It is worse than the Embassy interview. I told her that her priest will have all sorts of questions and tests to justify her relationship. Furthermore, I pointed out my letter from our priest that explained the examination of conscience that I had to go through. I told her, if we're ready to be married in the eyes of the Church I think that means we're ready to be married in the eyes of the US Government. She approved our visa after that.

All I can tell you is be prepared for anything.

Good luck!

Hi, Gang!!

I was just curious if there was any VisaJourney folks (who are U.S. citizens) who have attended their fiancée's K-1 interview...

If so, how'd that go?

Thanks!

Nope. I wanted to be there to bring him back with me, so I skipped the interview. He did just fine.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

It's really a personal decision, and then again depends on what your Embassy or Consulate allows. Personally, I'm glad my fiance wasn't there at the interview. I knew there was nothing wrong with my paperwork, and the interview was 5 minutes, and I got my visa at the interview. I enjoyed 5 days in Vancouver by myself. My fiance at the time was debating whether to come to the interview in November for a week, or come up the following month at Christmas for 2 weeks. I opted for the two weeks at Christmas! I think our decision was based on our Consulate however.

I get annoyed (not saying that's really happening here...) when people suggest on here that it's important to show this or that, moral support, etc. It's up to the individual couples. Some people may have to go into serious debt to get over there for an interivew, and if your fiance isn't returing to the USA with you right after the interivew, you might want to save that money for something after he/she gets to the USA.

Not going doesn't mean you love your finace any less.

In response to Carlawarla's post -

Everything is a personal decision in how you do your visa journey, so to speak. But, I will say this, coming from Canada and immigrating to the US, the embassy isn't looking at you so suspect as they might if you're from a second or third world country. Typically, most Canadians enjoy a lifestyle similar or better to the USA, so the embassy isn't as leery to the petitioner as in other countries.

Many times consulars/immigration officers assume that you're getting married for a greencard if you're from a Latin American, Eastern European, Asian, or African nation. It goes to say that if you have the opportunity (with respect to finances or time off from work) to be at the interview with your fiance do so.

It is up to each individual. I just know that my husband and I feel deep in our heart that his visa would not have been approved if I had not been there. Make your decision accordingly; personally, speaking from my own experience, I'm truly glad that I went.

Talked to my fiancée about this and she said she'd be a lot more nervous if I were there with her, so some pondering and discussing needs to be done before the decision's made. With all the comments on here, we can have something to reference, at least. Thanks!!

My husband was with me for the K1 interview last month, as he knew that I will be worried a lot before that (got rejected for first B1/B2 visa application and the officer was very rude to me, and got approved for 2nd B1/B2 visa application and officer was not really nice either). My interview went very good, and everyone at the embassy were very nice to my husband (fiance at that time) and to me (maybe fiance was there), and we did not even need to line up and get in to the embassy, my appointment time to hand in the document was 8am, then my fiance and I were dismissed at 9.30am, so it was quick.

For the afternoon interview, the consular officer was very nice and friendly, and said he will definitely approved me (before he asked me any questions), and all the documents are prepared well to him. He only asked my age, and job, then chit chat with my fiance, very easy and quick, and I was very very happy to see this.

Well, that was my experience, and will file my AOS soon, and try to figure it up how to fill it with my husband. Thanks VisaJourney, you guys are wonderful
