to stay in US or not to stay in US while applying?

Hello Everyone,

I am a Dual citizen of US and Canada born in U.S. Last June my Canadian girlfriend and I got married in Canada. We have residences in both U.S. and Canada but want to be in U.S. to finish building our house and take care of my severely ailing 89 year old father. As I understand it, I can file the I-130 from within U.S. but she cannot return if she leaves to see her ailing mother in Canada. Is there any way for her to be able to leave the U.S. and then return while her papers are being processed?
