Adjustment of Status Process

Hi folks,

As you know from my other post, I am finally here in the US!! In a couple weeks we will be getting married, and then we will begin part 2 of this immigration process.

I have been reading the Guides section in VJ about AOS, and the FAQ's. Is all the info I need here, or does anyone have any tips on what I should be doing now to prepare for when I adjust?

It seems pretty straightforward, but I have seen a lot of confusion around this process.

My main question is about the vaccination record. Do I have to find a doctor here to provide a new one for my AOS, or can I use the sheet that the Panel Physician gave me when I did my medical in Canada? I think I've read some posts where some people have gone through a doctor in Texas via fax, and was able to get all the paperwork they needed.

Other than getting the necessary forms off VJ, what government websites also have these forms?

Any help to avoid headaches down the road, for myself and anyone else beginning this process is much appreciated!

We didn't have too much problem (other then the waiting) with the AOS process.. I felt mentally drained from the move, the wedding and the goodbying.. so I was stressed through the document gathering/paperfilling process.. until that sucker got out the door.

We just used the instructions on the AOS process from the GOV forms and just looked at VJ when we were stuck mostly. Both of us are used to paperwork and being meticulous so we got through that bit a-okay.

for the Vaccination suppliment there are people who just submit the Panel Physician worksheet and others of us who get the civil surgeon to transfer it. It really depends on your comfort level with the process. We submitted everything requested by the instructions. I just felt better that way.

Just be methodical, use your spouse to check and double check, love each other and eat a lot of chocolate when you get impatient..that and a good scream now and then and you'll be fine!

And Jasman, I have not applied for SSN yet. From the tips on this website, I am going to wait 2 weeks, to ensure that I am in the system. I'll also apply after I get married I think, so that I don't have to worry about changing my name later.

We followed the AOS and EAD guide to the letter, no problems.

Tips:

Send USCIS plain old photo-copies of evidence like marriage cert, I-94 card, etc...

EAD use code (c )(9 ) based on bending I-485 and file for EAD with or after filing for AOS NOT before filing for AOS.

You get your foreign vaccination records transfered to a supplement by a US Civil Surgeon in the USA for AOS, dont let the C.S. try to rip you off for a full medical, just the supplement is needed, most doctors will do it for around $35.
