Hi everyone,

My case is complete since October 31st 2007. We are December 3rd 2007 and I still haven't heard from the embassy. How long should it take? And what am I supposed to receive from them? Does anyone know how it works? Thanks.

N-400 process started 09/2017

Hi Severine,

From what I understand, the rest of the process should go like this:

-I don't think you'll receive anything telling you your case is complete

-You'll be scheduled for an interview (most likely) in the second week of December. Call the NVC around Dec 14th to see if you have been.

-Once your interview is scheduled (I'm guessing you'll have one in early January, but NVC wont share the information they have on demand and supply), NVC will send your file to the Paris Embassy.

-The Paris embassy will then send you a letter about your interview, with information concerning the medical visit and details for what to bring to the Embassy.

Thats my best guess. Let us know if you hear anything.

Hi Severinep,

at some point the US petitioner will receive a letter from NVC stating that case was complete and forwarded to the US embassy in Paris.

It should take about 7-10 days after case complete for the auto message to change to "case forwarded to the embassy".

The US embassy in Paris will send you an appointment letter. Mine came long time ago, so may be you should

(1) Call Department of State (search VJ posts for the number, I do not remember it) and ask them about the status of your case - they should be able to tell you your interview date already.

(2) E-mail/fax US embassy in Paris and tell them you did not receive your appointment letter yet. You have to have that letter, otherwise they will not let you inside and you will not be able to have a medical!

Most likely you will have a January interview.

Good luck,

Rika

Usually, The Embassy sends interview packet to the visa applicant. You may want to check with the Embassy by emailing them.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

For info, what Rika says is correct for all cases completed before October 1st, when the Paris embassy (like many others) switched from standard to appointment processing.

It is now NVC, and not the Embassy, that schedules your interview, and they only schedule interviews the second week of each month, so it is normal that you did not have a "Case forwarded to embassy" message 7 - 10 days after case complete. Now, they will only forward the case to embassy after having scheduled your interview.

Since you, nor your husband, have not received an appointment letter from NVC (and it is more than a month later), this most likely means that you missed the round of interviews scheduled in November, and you will be scheduled during the round that takes place 2nd week of December.

I am in the same situation (case complete 9 days after yours) and have discussed this at length with both NVC and DOS operators. NVC has more information than DOS, but neither will tell you when you will most likely be scheduled, how many people are before you, or how many interview slots the Paris embassy has for a given month. They ask that you give them a call around the 15th of every month to see if you have been scheduled. As many VJers have noticed, wait time between case complete and interview has increased dramatically as the Embassies are adapting to the new system and dealing with the backlog of Standard processed cases.
