What do you guys think of this recipe? It sounds kid friendly? do you think it will work? he is going to try it first so i guess we can find out. i want to look up a good white chocolate one too

MARSHMALLOW FONDANT

In top of double boiler, melt 1 large bag kraft marshmallows with 1 tablespoon water until smooth. Add 1 tablespoon vanilla or almond flavour.

On top of work table, prepare 2 lbs powdered sugar and form a well. Pour melted marshmallows in well and start working (use wooden spoon if it is to hot to handle at first) until a smooth paste forms. Discard all the crusty residues. Keep covered in plastic bad when not in use.

To use, if fondant is too hard, place about 30 sec. in microwave. Dust work table with cornstarch, and knead for a couple of minutes. Then roll as thin as you want with rolling pin dusted in cornstarch. To avoid it from stickin to your work surface, turn rolled dough frequently, and continue dusting with cornstarch until you have reached desired thinnes.

To color: Separate small amounts of fondant & color with paste food colours to the desired tone. Knead until colour is smooth and completely uniform.

This fondant does not set fast at all. When you have formed your flowers, set them on a curved surface so they don't loose their shape (I also read on this board that you might want to try hanging them upside down so they don't loose their shape, I haven't tried it but sounds good) It will not be as perfect as Gum Paste, but it will work. Also, start making flowers at least two days in advance to allow them to set.

Hello!

I always think to myself when I watch that Ace of Cakes, there is not much CAKE in those cakes. I see, wood, plastic, foam....all sort of stuff but cake or actual icing.....is this not the point of cake to be able to eat and enjoy it? LOL

Sarah since you are a chef or at least a chef in training, i was wondering - when I see chefs making fancy cakes on TV (like ace of cakes or on the cake competitions) most of the time instead of icing they cover the cakes in something that they roll out with flat or put through a flattening machine. i know that i have had this before in chocolate and maybe in vanilla at weddings. what is it called? my husband is a very good cook and wants to make a special cake for my son's upcoming birthday and asked me to look up a recipe for the stuff. thanks in advance!

You know I was cake-shopping and talking to some bakers, and they all said the same thing-- that you can do the same thing with buttercream icing as you can with fondant.. as long as you mix it stiff enough. I agree with Sarah-- I don't like the taste of fondant, so if you guys don't either, just experiment with buttercream :)

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

I can't imagine the cold that most of you are speaking of but I can relate to the California cold.I left the house this morning it was 32 and today should get to 63 rain later this week. My hands stay cold all day.

Jackie glad that you are done moving and now just settling in. Wow I am glad to hear that the happy pills have taken smoking from you and that your lungs are getting a well deserved relief, I know darn ex smokers coments.

Trying to refrain from online shopping bidz got the best of my bank account. Jewlery is my weakness. Still on ebay for a few things.

Went to the casino last night and my husband hit the jackpot on the penny machine for $300 and was so excited it was priceless to watch him. He doesn't really like to gamble much so he had $30 and won it was great. The major was the Jackpot and he was not understanding what major was and the lady next to him told him and then you could hear him and then he came around to get me all excited I wish I had a video camera to capture it.

Hope everyone has a great week!

All I have to say is I really want cake ok really frosting Costco kind. Thanks for getting this stuck in my head!

Hope everyone is doing well. Kinda cool in S.A..... may have to put on real shoes instead of flip flops :o My sympathies to y'all up north (F)

My mother was in SA last week and she said it was absolutely gorgeous, she'd never been there during Christmastime before.

And Ill throw my 2 cents in on the icing issue: Fondant looks lovely, easily found at Michaels, tastes nasty. Id go with the marzipan or buttercream. Buttercream is one of those feel-good icings that is easy to make and gives your cake a lovely creamy topping. But Im more into a tasty cake than a perfect-looking cake. And now Im going to have to go home and make a dang-blasted cake because all this cake talk has pumped up my craving!

My Monday is a drag. I didnt get the inter-office transfer (no surprise, but still upsetting). And Im so, so, so ready to go on maternity leave. Between the morning sickness, the pain, and the fatigue I want to start bawling before I even get to the office. :crying:
