Translations for AOS Interview

I'm super excited because I found out today that we have our AOS interview coming up. There still haven't been any updates or e-mails so it was out of the blue.

Anyway, on the letter it states that we need to bring a certified translation for each document. At this stage the only thing we have is my husband's BC, right?

I mean we already had the interview in Rio (with a lot of Portuguese documents) - but everything they want at the AOS interview would be in English - besides the BC. Am I correct?

Yes, you are correct. Everything they want should be in English. When I was prepping for Fernanda's Interview, all I had was her birth certificate that needed translation. Depending on your husband's English, you may need to hire a translator for the Interview. From what I've learned here at VJ, they will not allow you to translate for him. It is good to know that one of our "K-1 Rio Classmates of March 2007" is about to complete AOS!

Yes, you are correct. Everything they want should be in English. When I was prepping for Fernanda's Interview, all I had was her birth certificate that needed translation. I was looking through our stuff and the only document I see in Portuguese is the BC, and since we had that translated in Brazil, it has an official statement stamped and signed by the translator.

I'm going to call USCIS to verify that we can ask anyone fluent in both languages to translate for us.

I saw where you'd already searched and found some info in a thread entitled "Interview Translator". Sounds like each service center may be a little different as to whether you can translate or if you need a 3rd party to be present for translation. So it is a great idea to call the Service Center where your Interview will be held and ask them directly.

BTW, Fernanda returns from Brazil on Dec 5. We'll buy our Christmas tree and prepare to celebrate our 1st Christmas and New Years holidays together. Should be fun!

Thanks for the tip Joey. I found that topic and read it. I don't know why people (mostly outside of VJ) keep telling me I can translate for my hubby when the letter clearly states we need a translator. I know they won't let me translate because they don't trust us.

We bought our Christmas tree and decorated outside - it's fun.

I hope Fernanda has a safe return.

I am reading the guides about AOS...what forms, and all paperwork that we need to send after to marry...and I see there that they ask : .

A copy of the intending immigrant's birth certificate along with English translation. (If in any language other than English)

So, my question for you is: Didn't you send this documents before the interview? You just need this for the interview for AOS?

For my interview in Rio de Janeiro I didnt need this translation. So, I don't have an official translation...

Is necessary to be someone official to do this or I can ask for someone that lives here and know my language to do it?

You don't need translations for your K1 interview (as long as it's in English or Portuguese). For the AOS interview, everything has to be translated. We brought a copy of hubby's translated BC along...but the IO didn't ask for anything anyway. She did already have a copy she said.

I did it for my husband's. No RFE's, no questions at the interview.
