yea, we will be going to city hall with my mom and probably my sister =)

i like the idea of a big wedding, but i dont like that it ends up being about everyone else, and not about the bride and groom...does that make sense? like the bride does all this stressing out and planning so the guests can have all the fun...thats how i feel anyways

That's how I'm feeling now...my family wants to invite ppl just they invited them to their kids' weddings...I mean really, some of these ppl I haven't even met or seen in ages. :help::help:

02.21.09 - "real" wedding in Montreal

That makes a lot of sense. I agree that I don't want mine turning into that either. It'll be interesting, I'm sure, since I know my idea of what I want is going to differ with my future MIL's idea... but I stand firm in the belief that it is OUR day. She already had 2 weddings, damnit.

Are you going to go to Brooklyn or Manhattan City Hall?

Your talking about the size of your family reminds me of how every time I mentioned to someone close to me that we'd be going to City Hall, they would invite themselves. "can I come?!" I had to say to everyone that no one is allowed to come. Though Scott says he cannot tell his parents they are not allowed to come to our wedding, so I suppose parents have a pass to that rule. My only exception is one friend who I would really like to have as a bridesmaid, but she doesn't have her Greencard yet, so she can't risk leaving the States, and we may have our "real" ceremony later in Montreal. So I may want her as my witness.

And yeah, 35 is a nice small number. There are 30 people I think I would like to invite, but I have no clue on Scott's side... already larger than I'd like, but at least it won't be one of those huge hundreds of people things!

i havent even met my future mother in law yet!!!! ahhhh lol i cant wait to go to albania FINALLY!!! lol i spoke to her on the phone a couple of times (even though i dont speak albanian and she doesnt speak english) and she sounds sooooooo sweet, like the sweetest little albanian woman in the world!! lol

i dont know yet if we will go to brooklyn or manhattan city hall...i hadnt really thought about it lol...if we went to brooklyn city hall, we could walk home

adriano wants to get married in the church also (i dont, but am willing to do so for him)...we havent finalized plans, but we toyed with the idea of getting married in the church in albania and then going out with his family afterwards

That's how I'm feeling now...my family wants to invite ppl just they invited them to their kids' weddings...I mean really, some of these ppl I haven't even met or seen in ages. :help::help:

Yeah, that's the kind of thing I'd just flat out put my foot down about. NO.

agreed. i know that my mother would be that way also, if i were having a traditional-type wedding. she would make me invite people i dont even know FOR SURE...thats absurd and angers me

I tried putting my foot down...didn't go over too well. So now I'm trying a different tactic. Let them make their list of a million ppl and when they add up how much it will cost, then I'm sure the number of ppl will go down rapidly. It's kinda working already...so we'll see..:unsure:

That is exactly what you have to do. More people means more expensive! Though yeah, if they are paying that might get tricky. Still, it's your day, not theirs. Ask them why they feel it's important to insist their wishes on your important day.

man, this is my sort of tactic for EVERYTHING

if you ask that sort of question, and FORCE people to put stuff into words, you can often get further than if you just straight-out tell them something... I learned that when I was teaching; works almost every time

though thankfully, I have the best sort of parents in the world when it comes to that sort of thing (and many other things, for that matter :) ) - they don't insist on ANYthing; are very happy to be flexible, etc etc... my mum WANTS to pay for a bit of a party, even though I said she didn't need to, but she still wants me to have complete control over the guest list and the proceedings; she's great that way :)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

SORRY!!!!! I asked my good-for-nothing OH to pop on and let you know I'd be late - I left work at 5pm and went via picking up my wedding dress but there have been floods where I live and they have closed the motorway so traffic is HORRENDOUS!!! Took me an hour to drive 1.9 miles.... and I'm not even exaggerating... *sigh*

Halfway in between getting into PJs and pouring glass of wine!! Just literally got in about 15 minutes ago!!!
