Alright folks!

So, Oliver and I rented a U-haul (14'). Came to about $470 Including 867 miles (plus gas only). Gas costed us about $250 for the trip from Toronto to Pennsylvania (his parents house to pick up a loveseat) to Virginia. We got super lucky at the Oakville U-haul dealership cuz we got a 2007 truck with only 14,000 miles on it.

At the border, when you're driving your truck towards customs, DO NOT FOLLOW THE SIGNS THAT SAY "TRUCKS THIS WAY"!!!!!!!!!. As a person moving your stuff to the US in a truck, you are still NOT A "TRUCK". Those signs mean commercial trucks!!!!!!!! Well, obviously we followed those signs and got into a little bit of doo-doo for it. The guy at the booth who takes your passport and package didn't know what the f- to do with them. He took them anyway though cuz we couldn't back up and go back and sent us to the yard to park with all the other semi's. yay. In our attempt to do that, we went into kinda the wrong area and a female CO yelled at Oliver  a little and then told us to get out of the truck cuz now she's going to x-ray the truck! I think she was just pissed at us and that's why she did this. more yay. Finally get to the right area and had to wait in a waiting room to get our stuff processed. Got my I-94 stamp for $6. However, the guy told us that I could go back to Canada before we wed and come back with it but just make sure to take the I-94 paper out of my passport or else the airport will confiscate it and then I'll be screwed.. I don't know what the f- he was smoking or talking about but we just nodded and said sure! (ya, not doing that). But he didn't ask for the list of what was in the truck or anything. The border took about an hour and a half-ish.

From there on.. it was just a smooth drive but bloody long.

We had left Mississauga/Toronto at 11 am, arrived in Pennsylvania at 9:30pm (had dinner with his folks and packed the loveseat in the truck) and didn't get into Virginia til 3 am. We were in bed at 4am.

Next day we picked up the pup at 9:30 am and unpacked til about 2am today.

Oliver's at work now and I just setup the computer and got all my 16 bags of clothes to still put away.

It's weird though. I don't feel like I live here yet, feel like I'm still here on a "trip" even though we unpacked all the 27 boxes yesterday of my stuff....... Think it'll take some time..

I think it took Derek awhile to feel really settled in our apartment too, but almost 2 years later he finally thinks of Arlington as home.

Sounds like you had a great move.... ...well except for the booboo with the "commercial" truck....

You definitely lucked out with the Uhaul. I don't see myself as being that fortunate. Unpacked - wow. Until we move to a bigger place, I know my stuff will not all be unpacked but put into a storage cubicle. Then again, could have a bigger place before I even move.... :crying: but I hope not.

You'll be able to take some time now and relax somewhat till the next round of paperwork starts.

Best of luck ... glad to see you made it safely.
