In the DC Metro area and looking for something fun and exciting to do on Friday or Saturday?

Embassy of Canada Art & Craft Fair and Canadian Wine Tasting Festival to Support the United Way

The Embassy of Canada in Washington, D.C. is pleased to announce its Art & Craft Fair and Canadian Wine Tasting Festival to support the United Way. It will take place on Friday, November 16 (from 11 AM to 7 PM, including Happy Hour from 4-7 PM) and Saturday, November 17 (from 10 AM to 5 PM), at the Embassy of Canada (501 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W.).

Come experience Canadian art, wine, music and much more! Visit the Embassy Art Gallery and view "Our Home and Native land" from the McMichael Canadian Art Collection including works by the Group of Seven. Enjoy a glass of Canadian wine and then buy a bottle to take home. Wander among the many booths filled with crafts and Canadian baked goods while listening to well-known Canadian artists. All in support of the United Way!

Sounds like an event one would have to wear pants to!! Too fancy for me!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I almost hate to ask this, but are you normally naked when you leave the house?

Casual is fine for this event, trust me.

being naked has many advantages, always have a seat to myself on the bus, hockey game,etc!! I dont go completely naked, socks have soo many uses

I was part of a trade mission to Barbados a couple of years back and they had a big "shindig" at the CDN Embassy for us.. I got dressed up in the LBD and everything but alas.. we were squeezed into the "pool area" and got a crappy show..

This looks like MUCH more of a "to do" affair than what we got and we were the "special guests"..

When I was in the navy, we hosted Cdn Embassy events in some of the foreign countries! Lots of free booze!!

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

Thats one thing we rarely ran out of--Cdn beer!! The "pop" machine in the mess (where u eat at sea and party in foreign ports) isn't ful of pepsi, but full of beer!! Was .75 last time I was onboard! The hard stuff used to be like .10 a shot! But was up to .25 when I left,lol

I would have loved to have gone to this if we lived in the area. Funny thing is, after years of living in Ontario, I finally got to play tourist this summer and visit the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.... something I had wanted to do forever. It was wonderful. And I even brought home some Group of Seven prints to add to my collection.... which I love. :) I wore more than socks, though. ;)

I haven't been to the McMichael Collection in years. Great place. Lots of my paintings by my favourite member of the Group of Seven, Lawren Harris (sorry A.Y. Jackson fans). BTW, Wearing socks is way overdressed for an Arthur Lismer painting. :lol:
