Anybody has an experience with this? I have my maiden name in the I-130 petition and it is being forwarded to NVC but I have my passport already in my married name? Can we easily change my maiden name into my married name? Would it possibly create a problem someday? What will we need do? Any idea is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

You will need to send the NVC a letter with the name change and a copy of your passport biometrics page (the page with your photo). Address for this change is:

National Visa Center

Attn: WC

32 Rochester Ave.

Portsmouth, NH 03801-2909

Don't forget to include your case number and names as they are now appearing on letters from NVC.

I didn't found an answer anywhere at NVC site but i found this in USEMBASSY Site, hope this will answer your queries:

Reporting Name Change, Birth, Death, Marriage, Annulment and/or Divorce and Correcting Date of Birth, Gender and Priority Date

If you would like to update the Embassy on life changes that occur while you are waiting for your petition to be current, you may contact the U.S. Embassy in Manila by fax (632) 301-2591. You may also mail the information to us:

By Mail:

From within the Philippines: Operations Unit, Immigrant Visa Branch, United States Embassy, 1201 Roxas Blvd., Ermita, Metro Manila 1000.

From outside the Philippines: Operations Unit, Immigrant Visa Branch, PSC 500, Box 26, FPO AP, 96515-1000 USA.

DO NOT send registered mail.

Do not address correspondence to a person by name. Employees are transferred on a regular basis, so any mail addressed to an individual may be forwarded to that person and not to the section where your concern would be addressed.

If you have an e-mail address, please include it in your correspondence.

Required documents:

To report a change from your single to your married name:

Send a copy of your marriage contract or

Copy of your passport showing your married name

I don't understand why you have your maiden name {other than where the I-130 ask for it} when you are doing a spouse visa?

What name does the marriage certificate have on iT?

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

you should be getting nvc case number soon. you can send in bio page from passport and a letter explaining the name change and when you fill out ds-230 you fill out in married name and put down other names used in # 2 your maden name this is the time to change it or not or explain to counselor and hope he will change visa but never heard of it being done. it is best to be consistant through the whole process is you start with one name it should end with one name. the goverment cant handle it when you put something new in front of them hehehehe

Thank you for all the suggestions, but as of now, we do not have a case number yet from NVC, we are still waiting for it, it's been 16 days from the approval of our I-130/NOA2.

Every step seems to take about a month. I would think that by the end of the month you will have your NVC case number, and then you can send them the name change and documentation. It won't hold up your application since there are several steps to go through while your app is there.

It should be your married name on line 2 and your maiden name on line 7. You'll have to correct it if you want to use your husbands name since some wives here keep their maiden name. Some also hyphenate their names also.
