Poverty Line and Yearly Salary Question

Hey Guys,

I have two questions for you...

Can some one give me a dollar amount for how much money one has to make yearly in order to satisfy the "above the poverty line" requirements for two people?

If a total yearly salary is above 40k for two people, do you still suggest having a co-sponsor? I was thinking it couldn't hurt but at the same time why put some one else through that trouble if it is not necessary.

What do you guys think???

:help:

125% of the poverty line is really a rather low number. For 2007, for two people it's $17,113. So you're fine. You're probably fine for 2008 as well because it won't go up by that much next year. Alaska and Hawaii have higher numbers but I remember you live in NY.

I don't think you need a cosponsor. At least I would not have one if I was in your situation.

Thank you!

If there are only 2 of you.... ie. yourself and your spouse to be, then if you earn in excess of $17,112.00 you do not need a co-sponsor... if you earn around that amount or less then yes tou will need to find a co-sponsor...

Kez

Thanks Kez

It's actually kind of cool, cause they look at your gross income and don't ask for any information about your bills. My student loans would probably put me below the poverty line! And then there's my mortgage. I bet if you look at pure numbers I probably can't even take care of myself right now. :jest:
