was USCIS correct in change of address

I moved last week and have not filed the I864 yet. (it is coming in the mail soon I hope as per NVC. And yes, I called NVC and notified them of my move).

However, from what I know and have seen on the I864 form online, it is FEDERAL law to update USCIS with your new address within 30 days of your move.

I called USCIS as their website states taht you only have to report your move if your paperwork is pending with thejm. (but I am in the NVC, past USCIS). I called them to confirm and the girl on the phone acted nwe. She put me on hold for roughly 5 mins while she researched. She told me that I only have to report a change of address IF I have filed the I864. And since I have not yet, no need to report my address for them by filing a I865.

I'm kinda paranoid here. Can someone confirm from their experiences if what she told me was correct?

I will be having the same problem too.. I am in the middle of the processing of my I864 which I submitted 2 weeks ago. Just last weekend I found a very cheap and good apartment so I took advantage of it and will be moving in next month.

So I called NVC this morning.. Here is what they told me.. They told me to call them back after I moved to my new apartment and update them to my new address.

They told me not to worry and everything will be fine.. "I hope so"

Roserick yeah they told me that too but I demanded to know from their viewpoint if what I read on the I864 was true. And they admitted that they have no control/do not know what USCIS does. So you've got to call them. In your case, judging from what I was told by USCIS this morning, yuou have filed the I864 so you are required to fill out the change of address form. (I865 I believe). Keep watch on that because it's a federal law.

You may want to check with USCIS though. Look on the bottom of the first page (I think) of the directions on the I864 form. It specifically states not to fill out the I865 at the same time as the I864. So that is worded improperly/a gray area I think.

I hate buraucracy. No one knows what any one else does. And who's got our backs if something gets messed up? Only us so we have to do all we can and when it comes to buraucracy I have learned one thing in this immigration process. When you find out where the snag is, go after the person/department causing the snag and demand answers. It is all like a big puzzle and I hope I never have to relive this puzzle again, lol

All fine by me. I just shudder at the thought of having the feds after me, my husband deportyed on site, or whatever due to getting bad info from ppl who are supposedly trained and educated in our laws.....well, I guess that is what immigration attorneys are..if things go bad.......
