Hi-

A while ago I was asked to send in the $380 for the I-864 but I was never instructed to send in the documentation. Now I have finally received the DS-230 request from the NVC. Can I mail the I-864 in with the DS-230 and use the same cover sheet or do I need to separate the two documents with their own coversheets?

It should be $70 for I-864 and $380 for DS-230.

Seems to me that your AoS bill go lost and you should call NVC and ask them to send you another one. If AoS bill is not paid, they will not accept/review your I-864.

The $380 fee is for your immigrant visa, not your Affidavit of Support (AOS)! In the guides you'll find the NVC process flowchart for CR1/IR1 visa applicants.

http://www.visajourney.com/examples/NVC_Pr...wchart_v1-2.pdf

Here you'll see that the I864 and DS230 are two separate "tracks" that eventually merge at the end. Was your I864 package generated? You'll need to talk to an actual NVC operator to find out. If so, you should have already received instructions on how to submit your I864 from the NVC, especially if you've already paid the AOS fee bill. If you have not received the instructions from the NVC, but you have confirmation that the package was generated, then you can either a) use James' shortcuts to make your own package or B) wait for the NVC to send you a package.

I'd say that if your AOS fee bill has been paid and you can confirm with the NVC that your I864 package has been generated, then by all means send in your I864 package!

Please remember to make duplicate copies of what you send in for your records and include your NVC case number in the upper right corner of all the papers.

Good luck!

:)

And why are you getting the $380 bill if you're filing for a K-3??? You sure you're in the K-3 process?

Please fill in your timeline!

Do not send together. The NVC wants them seperately.

Ok, I guess I got my checks confused - when I checked back in my records I sent in the $70 on 8/30. I didn't ever see anything about the I-864 after that.

I did make an inquiry to the NVC email address and was told that they were awaiting both the DS230 and the I-864. So it seems like they got everything they need in terms of checks and are just waiting on the documents.

I can't ever seem to get through to a real person at the NVC so that's the best info I've gotten so far.

As for the K-3 question - we've decided that it took too long to get the K-3 approved and are going the CR1 route now. I'll fill out my timeline tonight..

It seems like they sent the DS230 and I864 to you but it was not received. u should definitely contact an operator to find out when it was sent out and if they can send another copy of the items. I have had success contacting the NVC early in the morning or after 11:30pm EST. Just keep redailing until you get through (takes about 5-10 times of dialing). By the way, what does the automated message say for your case?

The other option you have is to use James Shortcuts to create the Bar Code and Cover Pages for the DS230 and I864. The NVC doesn't actually send you the forms but tell you to download the forms from online. They just send you the cover pages with the bar code which must be included with the forms you download and send back to the NVC.

Hope that helps.

Good Luck.

Damn you guys are good. I finally got through to the NVC and they confirmed that the I-864 packet was returned to them as undeliverable. Why, I have no idea...

So, I am going to try out James' short cuts. I suspect they are still valid for this.

Thanks for all the help!

JM,

I used JSC to make my own I864 package and everything worked out fine. You can do the same for the DS230. When filling out your DS-230, you'll need to see if your embassy is an appointment post. If so, then you'll need to include other documentation besides the DS230.

Here's what I did for my DS230 package:

1. Fill everything in! There's no way to write "present" on a few questions (#20, 22, 23) so you'll need to remember to fill it in by hand

2. If you have an appointment post: Send in originals or certified copies of your documentation. Fill in Parts I and II, but DO NOT sign part II!

3. If applicable: translation of documents from original language to English AND (notarized) certification of accurate translation.

4. I did this for all my original documents so they wouldn't get lost: I put each document into a clear plastic sheet protector and put our NVC case number on the plastic sleeve.

5. I made an overview letter of exactly what was included in the package, and wrote specifically if documents were just in French or if they were in both French and English.

6. I made 2 copies of the entire package

IM me if you'd like to see a copy of the overview letter I wrote.

:)
