Probably a silly question, but how do you know when your case is forwarded to NVC? Do they send you updates via email, or can you continue to follow your case on the USCIS website? Also, what forms does the beneficiary have to complete for the embassy? I know its a little different from the CR-1, but how different is it?

USCIS can only give you status on cases that are at USCIS, once it goes to NVC it is no longer trackable on the USCIS site.

USCIS and NVC tend to hold the I-130 in cases of K-3, and process just the K-3, the I-130 tends to be held at USCIS, anticipating the K-3 to adjust status.

You can call NVC or email NVC to track the I-129F for K-3.

If you do call NVC, talk to an operator, I-129F cases pass through there quickly and tend to not be added to their automated phone info system.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

NVC will send out a letter to you once they forward the I-129F to the embassy. My I-129F arrived at NVC on September 11th, got sent to the embassy in Lima on September 13th, and I think I got the letter in the mail about a week after NVC sent the paperwork to Lima, stating that the embassy would be contacting us soon.

In regards to the I-130/CR-1, I'm not sure. I can tell you that I haven't received anything from NVC regarding the I-130 though...and they've had it for more than a month. I am going to have to defer to someone else who has gone the CR-1 route to give you advice on it. Or you can call NVC and see if you can get them to speed up the CR-1 process if you know for sure that you don't want to go the K-3 route. Sorry I can't offer more info on CR-1
