Medical London embassy

I'm a bit confused on what the medical is about at the London embassy. Do you get it before your interview on the same day or is it a few days before or whenever. Also does this medical cost £200. Cant you get your own Dr to do this or is this the embassy themselves. If this is the case i have to travel twice to London. I live in the furthest northern part of Scotland so this just seems to add more cost for travel etc. Can someone explain what the process is on the medical?

Thanks

The Embassy require you to get a medical with Knightsbridge doctors in London. See here for a review on the UK forums http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8321 . You can get the medical done on the same day as the interview but it will delay your visa as they will not issue it until they have the results of the medical.

17th March 2010 - Started the removal of conditions process

22nd March 2010 - Application received by CSC

30th April 2010 - Biometrics appointment

Yes, unfortunately it must be done by Knightsbridge Doctors only, and it does indeed cost £200. As Rosemarie says below, you can schedule the medical for the day of the interview, or even the day before, if you only wish to make one trip, but bear in mind this will delay your visa being issued. Others have had the medical close to the interview, so it can be done, but if I were going to do this I would rather have the medical the day before the interview -- what if you get delayed at the medical and missed your interview, or vice versa? Just my 2p! :innocent:

It takes about 4 days for your medical results to get from Knightbridge to the embassy, so not a huge holdup in getting your visa to you. It will definitely save you travel costs to make one trip. Others hace done this successfully. You might want to poke around in the UK forum for some first hand experiences with doing this. Bill and Haley is once couple that comes to mind who have done this recently without any trouble. Good luck!

My husband had to fly from Belfast TWICE - once for his medical and again for his interview. Back then, same-day medical exams were not even an option. You do have the option of scheduling them the same day but as was stated above your visa approval will be delayed.

I recall once reading of a scotsman who took the bus for his London appointments in order to save money.

I'm from Scotland and had my medical the day before my interview. There is a delay of about 4-7 days in getting your visa but it's much better than having to travel twice as it can be expensive. The other thing that happenend when I had my medical which was unexpected I was given the option of having MMR and tetnus vaccinations as my childhood vaccinations had ran out. I chose to have it done as it avoids having to get it done in the U.S but it is an added expense I can't remember how much, something in the region of another 100. Good Luck

What I always suggest is that you come down to London and stay overnight. Do the medical on day 1, then go and do some sightseeing, do the touristy thing, have a meal or whatnot. Stay in a Travelodge or something and the next day go for your interview.

Although you can get the medical and interview scheduled for the same day I really don't recommend it, personally. The embassy is not the best place for things being on time and you could end up being there for a few hours. If you do want to do it this way, schedule the interview and medical at opposite ends of the day.

Good luck!

Having MMR and TD done at the medical in London would cost an additional 60 GBP. My husband's GP does them both for free, and I think that's pretty common. So definitely better to have the vaccinations in advance.
